Water We Doing! is a low key, low pressure, fun community event intended to bring together people who like the idea of being part of “LGBTQ+ inclusive aquatic performing arts”, whatever that means to you.

For the synchronized swimmers, it means no rules, scoring, or judges, and works in progress as well as thematic routines with extended deckwork and props are welcome.

Our April Synchronista of the Month is Marena 🌟🌟🌟

As a Pisces, Marena has always loved being in the water, and although synchronized swimming always interested her, she didn’t know how to actually get started. Then she found TNYA.

“I love that it’s such a supportive community where everyone is always so encouraging and excited to see each other’s progress!”

When she’s not swimming around like a seal, Marena loves to hang out with her best friend (a standard poodle named Cheree) and sculpt with clay! ♓️🐩✨

For our final spotlight, we are featuring our fabulous swim camp coordinator, the one and only Anji Li!

“Swimming and sports have always been a source of strength and confidence for me in a society that often suggested I should make myself small,” she says. “Growing up, swimming was the one place where I was surrounded by women who were shattering expectations — in and out of the water.”

She adds, “It took seven years after my last college swim meet to find TNYA, but it was well worth the wait for the impact it’s had on me. TNYA creates a space where q***r athletes reclaim a sport that was never built for us and where joy in the water is an act of defiance.”
