Dance Project of Washington Heights is a non-profit, community dance program. We seek to unite our multi-cultural community and to provide high-quality dance education to children of all backgrounds and income levels by offering pay-what-you-can dance classes.

🌎💚 Next week at DPWH Summer Camp, we're showing our campers that they can make a difference in the world, starting right here in our own neighborhood.

Our theme is Caring for Our Community, and we're traveling the world through:
🕺 Hip Hop
👣 Step
💃 Bollywood
🌺 Hula
🌼 Latin Folklórico

We're also taking action with two special service projects:
📚 Building a Little Free Library to donate to J. Hood Wright Park
🌸 Planting flowers in front of our studio to help brighten our block

Because dance can inspire action, and even our youngest artists can help build a stronger community.

🎭 Families are invited to our weekly showcase on Friday at 2:30 PM to celebrate everything our campers have learned!

This weekend, our dancers were struggling with a VERY slippery stage floor at GW High School. The stage is linoleum, which isn’t safe or ideal for dance.

BUT…..APPARENTLY one of our dance moms happens to be an event manager who works with theaters throughout the city. Thanks to her connections, the beautiful is lending us a Marley dance floor for A Blooming Future!

This is a huge gift that we simply could not afford on our own ❤️❤️

Parents, grandparents, staff, and volunteers are pulling all-nighters to finish costumes for more than 300 dancers. We’re still making last-minute purchases of dresses, shoes, and skin-tone leotards to help dancers manage quick changes backstage.

🚨 We're Hiring Backstage Chaperones! 🚨

Want to be part of the magic behind the scenes of our spring performance, *A Blooming Future*? 🌸✨

Dance Project of Washington Heights is looking for responsible, energetic teens and adults to help supervise dancers backstage during rehearsals and performances.

📅 Rehearsals (all day): June 13 & 14
📅 Performances: June 20 & 21

✅ Must be available for at least one rehearsal day
✅ Experience with children is a plus
✅ Great opportunity for college students, educators, camp counselors, dance teachers, and community members

💵 Stipend: $200–$400 depending on availability

You'll help with line-ups, costume changes, keeping dancers organized, and making sure everyone has a positive performance experience.

Spring Break is coming, and if you’re like most parents, you’re probably wondering what your kids are going to do all week.

Here’s a little glimpse of the joy, movement, and creativity from our February camp 💛

This April, you can give your child a week like this. A chance to move their body, try new dance styles, and create something of their own.

Our Spring Dance Camp: Flow & Flourish is a joyful, active week where kids explore dance styles like hula, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and musical theater.

But what makes it special is that kids don’t just learn steps. They create their own dances, tell stories, and express their ideas and emotions through movement.

Let your child 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗺 at our 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 & 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽!

Throughout the week, dancers will explore 𝗵𝘂𝗹𝗮, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆, while creating their own dances and movement stories inspired by the beauty of spring. Campers will also design costume and prop elements to bring their ideas to life.

It’s a joyful week of movement, imagination, creativity, and friendship in our welcoming studio.

We’re excited to share that DPWH students will be performing at the NYRR Washington Heights 5K on March 1!

Join us at Margaret Corbin Circle from 9:00–10:15 AM as our youth ensembles, teen salsa class, and professional salsa dancers bring rhythm and energy to race day.

We love showing up for our Washington Heights community — come cheer on the runners and our dancers!
