Art we love! “Rise (2020)” by Ferrari Elite Sheppard, an American contemporary visual artist, known for his vibrant, hybridized paintings which blend figurativism and abstract art. Sheppard was raised in Chicago's inner city in the 1990s, amongst urban decay and over-policing of Black men resulting in the deterioration of Black neighborhoods. Facing the trauma of Black life in America, Sheppard says,“Pain is easy for me, because I’ve experienced it, and I think every human being has experienced pain; but, to be able to articulate beauty, that is rare, and it’s so necessary in this world.”
