A pitcher can look like they’re throwing harder…while actually generating less velocity, losing control, and putting more stress on the arm.
Angel L. Lugo, GameRun’s head of baseball, says the movement often starts with the front side. When a pitcher opens too early, the body’s rotation gets ahead of the throwing arm, leaving the arm to do work the rest of the body should be doing.
At full speed, it can be difficult to see. Slowed down, the pattern becomes much clearer.
