In 1977, BASL began with 12 teams, each sponsored by and named after iconic West Village bars: Badlands, Boot Hill, Kelly’s, Crossroads, Eagle’s Nest, Boots and Saddles, Nickle Bar, Numbers, Ramrod, Spike’s, Wildwood and Ty’s. Ty’s is the only one of those legendary bars still standing.

This Saturday, May 16th, Ty’s and Ty’s Jesters will open its doors for BASL.

Ty’s is a cozy establishment therefore we will be looking to do a co-event in the area. More details to come and if you are in the area, stop by and celebrate an important part of BASL history.

Happy *50th Season* BASL.
What began as a 12 team league in 1977 has grown into a two conference league with 7 divisions, 35 teams and over 700 players. 50 seasons is a major accomplishment and we could not have done it without all of you. As cliche as it is, we stand on the shoulders of so many that came before us and we extend our hands to raise those coming after us. 50 years of community and counting and the rest is still unwritten. Have an amazing season!

Hey BASL, Are you READY?

Please join us on Friday, April 17th at Monster Bar for one of two Opening Parties. The Manhattan Monster Bar will host us at the lower level from 6pm - 10pm. Mocktails & Cocktails, DJ, drag show hosted by Patty McGroin at 7pm DQT, and a raffle for the Axe DISTURBANCE 26oz end-loaded USA softball bat retailing for $319.99 (all proceeds will go towards BASLs 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2027).

Breaking news: your spring plans now include softball. 🌈🥎

The Big Apple Softball League is heading into our 49th season (the big 5‑0 is right behind it!). We're looking for new players of all experience levels, from longtime athletes to total beginners who just want to get outside and have a good time.  Come play softball, meet new people, make friends, and be part of a league that’s been part of the NYC LGBTQIA+ community for nearly five decades. 

Selection Days:

📍 Randall’s Island - Fields 33 & 34

Next Friday won’t be as brisk and we hope to see you as we kickoff a Pre-Selection Day event at The Manhattan Monster Bar, Friday the 13th starting at 6pm. BASL will have exclusive access to the lower level, bartender, drink specials and DJ David Michaels. You will also be entertained by Ivory Snow and Anylah the Doll as they host THE DUGOUT After Dark at 7pm. Hope to see you all there!

We are having a BASL Pre-Selection Day kickoff on Friday the 13th (February). We are inviting players, managers and anyone interested in joining the fun.

Please join us as we get ready for the 49th season.

No experience required and some experience is desired.

Icon Astoria invites BASL to a pre-New Year's Eve celebration on Tuesday, Dec 30th. Open Bar from 7pm - 8pm, so get there early and get a seat at the bar. BASL's Social Chair, Ivory Snow, will be there to perform for you at 9DT (Drag Time). Don't forget those drag dollars.
