This is how we GENERALLY observe timing for routine ground balls hit straight at an infielder! (From our own experience)

The “Fielding Triangle” Or Fielding Intersection is our last two steps to the ball….Right-Left Catch❕

The fielding intersection is where a lot of balls are thrown away before the throw begins…..

Timing of this intersection is ball dependent. When we arrive at this intersection determines where the ball enters within our base. Directly affecting Glove Agility.

When infielders arrive EARLY or LATE, we start to observe momentum disturbances, glove presentation issues…which directly influence how well an infielder throws each rep…

Not every rep will be perfect, far from it! But if we can take feedback from each rep that allows the infielder to become a student of their own game…

Again, there are a lot of moving parts in fielding a ground ball. There aren’t many absolutes, but this is a way WE see timing

Some Internal Clock ⚾️⏰ 🥎Thoughts❕

Infielders Respond To Their Environment…

& They Are Up Against Their Internal Clock…

Speed Of Runner X Speed Of Ball….

As athletes get older the game speeds up (aka speed of runner/ speed of ball)….

Overall the physicality increases…

Skill & Approach are at the forefront of adjusting to the game speeding up…

Train that now, promote chaos in practice now, make fast eventually feel slow bye increasing body control & skill…

ELIMINATE fear of failure, those are brakes on the INTERNAL CLOCK

We study throwing from several different components…..

Age, skill level, position, variety of plays, joint sequencing, sport demands to name a few…

Our lens has a heavy focus on Infield Throwing as that’s the population we work with…

When we look at Arm Pathways we look to see no only where do the hands break? But also who is leading the loading of the ball going back away from the midline? The ball or the elbow ? Big difference ❕

For too long youth infielders have been pushed so far away from throwing “side arm” that they have been taught the opposite extreme “Over The Top”

“Over The Top” is not a poor method by any means, in fact it’s where everyone should start to throw as a novice….

But “Over The Top” is all relative not only to position the arm is unraveling, position of the sport etc….

When we look at infielders we understand they may play other positions such as pitcher & outfield….but we focus on pathways, hand breaks, rhythm of the feet & hands, front side efficiency etc

We try to identify throwers into categories to allow us to support them with the best drill interventions we deem necessary…

🚨Coaches need to understand the demand of the game, positional awareness, age etc before they start teaching throwers who are 1 dimensional ! 🚨

Thank you for spreading amazing knowledge! Go follow
