HuffPost has launched “Voices of Disabled People,” a new section under HuffPost Voices dedicated entirely to stories by and about people living with disability.

The initiative focuses on the reality that 1 in 4 adults in the United States live with a disability, making disabled people one of the country’s largest minority groups, yet their perspectives have historically been sidelined in mainstream media coverage.

The section builds on the relaunch of HuffPost Voices in 2022 under director Raj Punjabi-Johnson and aims to centre first person storytelling and nuanced reporting that reflects the wide range of disability experiences.

Punjabi-Johnson says the goal is simple: Disability is not a single story but a spectrum of lived experiences, and this space allows disabled people to share their narratives on their own terms without being reduced to stereotypes of limitation or struggle.

By creating a dedicated editorial platform, HuffPost is pushing disability stories into the center of the national conversation instead of treating them as an afterthought✨
