Appreciative: A Relationship Like No Other and Why Policy Must Finally Catch Up - Able News at The Viscardi Center Right now, New York City is considering a proposal known as Intro. 303, a measure that would effectively limit 24-hour home care shifts to 12 hours by penalizing agencies that continue to provide live-in care. The intention is to address real and urgent concerns about how home care workers are treat...

Reposting in hopes of better reach…watch this video all the way through, share, repost, favorite, and comment so that this video can been SEEN and so that more can be informed on why disabled New Yorkers are urging members of the city council to vote no on Intro 303 so disabled New Yorkers who receive 24-hour homecare can remain living safely in community.
It’s not because we don’t want our caregivers to have legislation that will keep them from being overworked and underpaid.
It’s because the bill conflicts with state law concerning 24-hour care and Managed Long Term Care, and doesn’t offer a solution to this conflict that won’t leave disabled New Yorkers without the care they need to live.

Intro 303 could end 24-hour care as we know it—putting thousands of New Yorkers at risk.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. 24-hour care ≠nonstop work- Includes rest periods within a structured system
2. Eliminating it won’t fix care gaps - Could leave people without overnight support
3. Risk of institutionalization - Without continuous care, many can’t remain at home
4. Mismatch with state policy - Medicaid rules won’t automatically adjust
5. We can protect workers AND care - Fair pay matters—so does access
Protect home care. Protect dignity. Protect community.

Friday night be like…
Rebuilding the Nemesis 300—one of the core machines we rely on for adaptive strength work. Nothing off-the-shelf ever quite fits what our community needs, so we build and dial it in ourselves.
Less than 30 days out from opening the new Axis.
Back to work.
The dust before the storm. Stay warm, New York. ❄️
Hey… we’ve missed you.
So many people in our community have been checking in on us—stopping by the new space, peeking in during construction, and reminding us why this work matters. Thank you for your patience and for holding us as we build this next chapter. 💛
The progress is real: roof lifted, walls up, windows in, floors down. We’re in the final stretch now—finishing touches, paint, electrical—and then it’s time to bring in the equipment. This space is going to be so good.
We’re building a new, universally designed East Harlem hub so we can continue serving New Yorkers with disabilities and older adults—expanding adaptive fitness and growing into creativity, technology, nourishment, and community in new ways.
We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you in.

Our nurses are more than healthcare workers — they are often our only advocates in moments when we are most vulnerable.
They show up when we are giving birth, navigating illness, recovering from injury, or sitting bedside with the people we love. For many in the disability community, nurses are our bridge to dignity, safety, and being heard.
If you’re looking for ways to stand with the nurses who stand with us — here are four ways to support
Solidarity goes both ways
Get Active. Get Fit. Get Empowered.
