Why Parents Aren’t Getting Replies from College Coaches (Read This)
I see this all the time…
Great athlete.
Strong potential.
But zero responses from coaches.
Most of the time, it’s not the athlete — it’s the email strategy.
Here are the 5 biggest mistakes parents make when emailing college coaches:
1. The Email Is Too Long
Coaches get hundreds of emails daily.
If your message takes more than 30 seconds to read, it’s already too long.
2. Listing Stats That Don’t Stand Out
Not every stat is worth including.
If you’re unsure whether it’s strong — leave it out. Weak stats hurt more than they help.
3. Sending Video Attachments
If a coach has to download your video, they probably won’t.
Use a clean, clickable link instead (YouTube, Hudl, etc.).
4. No Tracking or Follow-Up
Most replies come from follow-ups — not the first email.
If you’re not tracking emails and sending strategic follow-ups, you’re missing opportunities.
5. Information Overload
Too much information in the first message overwhelms coaches.
Your goal is simple: get them interested enough to respond.
Recruiting is about clarity, positioning, and making it easy for coaches to evaluate your athlete.
If you’re serious about playing at the next level, your communication has to be just as strong as your athlete’s performance.
