It also took decades for me to realize that, although my father was the more stable and ‘loving’ parent and I believed that my mother was the “evil” one..

He played a massive role.

His lack of integrity contributed to her lack of emotional regulation.

His silence contributed to her rage.

His lack of protection was an indirect green light to her violence.

None of this excuses any of what happened, but understanding is the first step towards acceptance.

And acceptance frees us from the resentment and heaviness we carry…

And free from that, we break the cycle.

😡 I did not want to forgive my mother..

Because I thought that forgiveness meant making her wrongs right.

That it meant to let go of any desire for potential accountability or “justice.”

I eventually realized that the greatest form of justice was to give myself permission to be happy and free from my stories of trauma and hurt.

That she may have hurt me a few times back then,

But I hurt myself thousands in the chaos within my own head.

She may have poured gasoline,

but I kept lighting the match and setting myself on fire..

All so I could look at her and think “See what you did?! You were wrong. I am right.”

But righteousness and peace can never coexist.
