CREATIVE VOICES: FOCUSING ON DYSPRAXIA THROUGH FILM AND MUSIC
Friday October 10th, 3 PM - 5 PM Eastern; 8.00pm - 10.00pm in Ireland: Zoom
A vibrant evening of creativity and insight begins with two short films by Evan Casey and Grace Gonnelly, offering personal perspectives on dyspraxia. Evan's award-winning film "Me And This" explores the experience of a young man with dyspraxia, while Grace's acclaimed works "Cliff Edge" and "Shut up Brain" reflect her emotive storytelling. Joining live from New York, composer Rob Katz will debut a choral piece inspired by his lived experience as a dyspraxic artist. Music therapist Simon Brody will also share powerful insights into how music therapy can support neurodivergent individuals. Expect a thought-provoking celebration of neurodivergent voices!

So I’m totally excited that my first choir piece for four voices (SATB), WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME, was accepted to be premiered at the C4: CHORAL COMPOSER/CONDUCTOR COLLECTIVE workshop tomorrow (Thursday). But as one of the composers, I got a chance to look at some of the other pieces and they are going to be really hard to sight sing, especially at tempo. Lots of tritones, big leaps, constant time signature changes, yikes! My plan is to stand in the back and sing really softly. So come sing if you’re a really good sight singer or if you have a much higher frustration tolerance than I do! The Mangfather Bob Katz

Amazingly, my first choir piece for four voices (SATB), WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME, was accepted to be premiered at the C4: The Choral Composer/Conductor Collective workshop. And they’re inviting singers to come sing along! Arrive promptly by 7 PM and after a brief warm-up, you’ll be given the music to your part and we will get going. Obviously, this process favors folks who are good sight-singers, unlike me (although I’m getting better, I think). I hope you can join us. The Mangfather Bob Katz
