The pitchers you call “mentally tough” aren’t just wired different. They get in their head too. They feel pressure. They doubt themselves. They have innings where everything feels off.
The difference? They don’t let it take them out.
That wasn’t luck. That was built. Built by getting rocked and showing up again. Built by walking hitters and figuring it out on the fly. Built by competing when everything in them wanted to shut down.
That’s where real confidence comes from. Not from feeling good. From proving to yourself — over and over — that you can handle hard.
Most pitchers wait to feel confident before they compete. That’s backwards.
The ones who separate? They compete uncomfortable. They compete frustrated. They compete doubting. And they learn how to stay steady anyway.
That’s what makes them dangerous.
So if you’re in your head right now? Good. That’s where the build starts.
Handle it right.

As previously announced, PGF has made the move to change each player’s age eligibility registration date from January 1st to September 1st. This change will be effective September 1, 2025. Your age on September 1st will be the age division you will be eligible for the remainder of the year thru PGF Nationals the following year.

Facts. At this age, kids should be learning how to be coachable, good teammates. All the rest is icing on the cake.

Always keep it real
Listen close, dear daughter…
You don’t have to play the part of the good girl.
I know the weight that it carries.
Trying to be ‘good.’
Good is doing all the right things.
Good is self-sacrifice.
Good is what’s expected.
Good is what’s praised.
Except
Good is subjective.
What looks good for some
Can feel terrible for others.
What someone says feels good.
May not be the right fit for you.
And what someone believes is good.
You may know in your heart, is not.
So, no, my girl.
I don’t hope for you to be good.
I hope for you to be real.
Authentic.
And true to you.
I believe I’ve raised you to decide right from wrong.
I believe I’ve shown you when and where kindness matters.
I believe I’ve given you the tools to make smart decisions.
I believe I’ve placed the power of choice in your hands.
And I believe in you being real over good.
Because while good may be how you’re perceived by others.
Real…. Real is who you are within yourself.
So please, dear daughter, don’t try to be the good girl.
Strive to be the real one. ♥️

Message from an Anonymous College Softball Coach:
I was at a recruiting tournament this weekend, and there were several things that made me walk away from games where I was watching girls I was interested in recruiting:
Parents yelling from the sidelines at umpires and kids on the field (including their own child).
Players leaving the dugout during the game to talk to their parents about coaching decisions, umpires, or asking for special treatment and snacks. (This might sound tough, but I don’t want a player who runs to their parents to complain about everything and needs constant reassurance during the game.)
Giving dirty looks to umpires or talking back to them.
Struggling to recover after a strikeout, a tough inning, or a call they didn’t agree with.
Lack of hustle. Walking instead of running, talking back to coaches, or treating teammates disrespectfully.
We recruit not just the athlete, but also the family. We look for attitude and effort. We seek athletes who can bounce back from failure and push through mistakes. We want kids who keep working hard when things get difficult or when a play or call doesn’t go their way. We recruit grit and athleticism, combined with a deep understanding of the game. We look for kids who don’t give up and blame others for their circumstances. We want kids who run out grounders and never give up on a play. We seek kids who recover, lead, and compete.
If you want to be recruited, stay present for every play and every action on the field. You never know who’s watching in the stands.

Dedication and perseverance can surpass natural ability when combined with focused effort, leading to remarkable achievements.
