The Friends of Maudslay is a volunteer group devoted to restoring and maintaining park facilities in a time of tight state budgets.

Maudslay State Park is a landscaped and decorative park along the banks of the Merrimack River. It features 19th-century plants and gardens, rolling meadows, tall pines, and one of the largest naturally occurring stands of mountain laurel. The Maudslay State Park Association is a 501c3 with hundreds of members, dedicated to the preservation of this land and its unique historical and horticultural treasures.

My plan for the day was turtle pictures but my knee had other plans, so I wandered gingerly through a part of the park I don't usually visit, the site of Helen's House and the area behind the formal gardens. The Peonies are looking fabulous in the formal garden. If you haven't been to the park lately, work has started on the Stone Cottage and the state is working on a new coat of paint for Ober House also known as the Park Headquarters.

Greetings from Maudslay!

There’s plenty to see at the park during the month of June and currently the main attraction is the beautiful Flame azaleas, plus Dexter & Catawba rhododendrons. There’s still one more cycle left and the Mountain Laurel is next followed by a late variety azalea & rhododendron, come visit the Bloomin’ Maudslay Interpretation Station to find out more about them & view their beauty before the season ends.

Also, June is when fireflies are most active so mark your calendar for the “Firefly Foray” programs scheduled to learn more about them & observe this beautiful spectacle of nature.
