2026 Youth Football Schedule

CANCELLATION ANNOUNCEMENT. We regret to announce this year’s 20th annual Samuel Phillips Baseball Camp has been cancelled in hopes of doing the camp later this year if possible. Coach Phillips has recently taken on the role of Athletic Director at Avery High, and along with his IT responsibilities within the schools he is not able to hold camp this season. We are all very disappointed but understand the situation and hope you will as well. We definitely plan to offer baseball camp again and will be moving to an earlier summer date moving forward.

Parents are free to stop by the gym to pick up their checks or refunds, or call us at 733-8266 if you have further questions.

Youth Cheer parents, today is your last day to register your child for U-8, U-10 and U-12 divisions. Cheer meeting tonight at the Rock Gym, Thursday, at 5:30. Uniforms will be ordered immediately after. Thank you!

Attention Pickleball players… There will be no pickleball next week, August 10-14, in the Rock Gym, due to baseball camp in the morning and the distribution of football equipment in the afternoon. We will be available for Pickleball again on August 17. Thank you for your understanding.

EXCITING NEWS for our Youth Football, Cheer, and Flag parents. This season, the Avery County High School Athletic Department and Administrative Team, and your Avery County Parks and Recreation Department have an exciting announcement for our participating youth!

All youth PARTICIPANTS in our Flag, Cheer, or Tackle divisions will be allowed FREE ENTRY into each Avery Vikings home Varsity football contest when attending the games with a paying adult and wearing their Avery Parks and Recreation affiliated Flag Shirt, Cheer Top, or Tackle Jersey!

The Administration and the Athletics Department of Avery County High are on a mission to build their athletics programs from the bottom up, beginning with the Recreation programs. Together, Avery Parks and Recreation and ACHS Athletics wants to pack the stands, rebuild the Viking Tradition, and increase Avery Vikings Spirit throughout the 2026 Fall sports season!

Join us this Fall for Viking Football, and join us right now for Youth Cheer, Flag Football and U-8, U-10 and U-12 Tackle Football. We are extending registration for one week until Friday, August 7! You can register at the Rock Gym daily. GO VIKINGS and JR VIKINGS!

This afternoon’s conditioning will go in as scheduled. We will move inside the Rock Gym if necessary, so please bring tennis shoes for your players. See you at 5:30.

Just a few more pics from a great week of Tommy Burleson Basketball Camp. Special thanks to our guest speakers, Andrea Stinson of NC State fame, and Steve Vacendak of Duke. The kids enjoyed their time with these awesome hand’s on speakers!

Fall Youth Football conditioning drills will begin this Tuesday, July 28, at 5:30. The fun drills will be led by professional trainer and coach, Robbie Brinkley. We invite all the prospective youth football participants to attend, from Flag to Tackle. Wear shorts and cleats and we’ll have a great beginning of the season!
