There are many misunderstandings around the martial arts. With these posts I hope I can clear those misunderstandings up and provide people with some insight so they can make an informed decision on whether martial arts are for them or their family.
The first one. Martial arts promotes bullying and violence. The entertainment industry has not done anything to help this misunderstanding. I started my martial arts training when I was 9 years old because I was being bullied. The training actually made me stronger, not only physically but mentally as well. Most martial arts guide the student towards a non-violent resolution to a problem, only using actual fighting as a last resort. The Okinawan philosophy to martial arts is that these skills are for “life protection”. Not just the student’s life but all life, even the life of the one who threatens the student. That does not sound like a bully or violent behavior.

We had a "thing", whenever he stood like this I would call him Bushi Odo so he would strike this pose. Not sure how many got to see that side of him but he was a real cut up.
