Newport Harbor Yacht Club Anglers Fleet
The NHYC Anglers Fleet started in 1940 and was originally called the “Fishing Activities Committee”. This group gave way to the NHYC Tuna Club in 1949.
In 1970 the name was changed to NHYC Anglers and in 2007 modified to NHYC Anglers Fleet.

Who is going to join us in next weekends inter-club challenge? Lets get as many boats together as we can to better out chances of beating BAC this year
Don’t miss tonight’s event at 6pm...Jimmy Decker will be on hand at NHYC to show you how to get fish on the boat...plus there will be tacos and sodas!
The season is certainly looking up...the Marlin, Tuna and Dorado are around and getting closer...doesn’t look like the Albies will make this year’s party.
...after further review, Mark Callin picked up the First Yellowtail Flag on July 18. Mark burnt a lot of fuel to get this fish...90 below Ensenada! Rumor has it, he is now a part owner of the Coral where he frequents the fuel dock on his long range expeditions. Congratulations to Mark on yet another flag.
The Fleet’s legendary Ford Dealers Dennis Shannon and Tim Mullahey just returned from an adventure in Alaska. The following report was just forwarded by Tim. See attached picture...first time I have ever seen Mullahey around fish without a Bud Light! Dennis is trying to keep up with his son, Billy, who took this year’s Junior YT Flag.
“Caught these King Salmon at Waterfall Resort in south east Alaska. The fish weighed 33.1 Dennis and 28.4 Tim. The trip was fun...chartered a plane and flew up with the Southern California Ford Dealers. Caught our limits of Silvers and Halibut. Fished with 25 # mono. The float plane ride back to Ketchikan was the worst in my life with fogged out conditions rain, mountains etc. the pilot "high fived" the co-pilot when we landed.” Tim

As you know, Balboa Angling Club is in the process of redoing it’s old clubhouse which is located next to Gary’s fuel dock. The committee is delighted to advise that we, the NHYC Angler’s Fleet have donated $1,000 to this project. If you have a couple of extra bucks, we encourage you to make a personal donation. BAC was organized in 1926 and is a real asset to the local fishing community.
Balboa Angling Club Sport Fishing Club We are a family of fishing men, women and children who all love the outdoors, the strike of a fish and the satisfaction of the Catch or Release.
