Some of the folks that make this event possible every year.

On my left in the first photo is City Manager Alan Archer. You have him to thank for giving the event a chance in its first year back in 2022. The city was looking for events to bring to the revitalized downtown NN and Mr. Archer was believed in what we wanted to do.

On my right is the Deputy City Manager Bo Clayton. Bo has been the events biggest supporter over the years and you have him to thank for the City Center Hill Climb, the Newport News Twilight Criterium, and especially the Fort Eustis Circuit Race. Everyone always asks how we were able to have the race on the base these past years and the answer is because of our connection to Bo. Previously Mr. Clayton was the Garrison Commander of Fort Eustis and in his role with the city he maintains a close working relationship with the base command. Sometimes it really is who you know.

In the second photo is the current Garrison Commander COL Hutchinson. She was a rockstar this year despite some ongoing chaotic world events. She fought hard to keep the race on the base this year and helped us on race day work through a myriad of issues that most participants were probably not even aware of. We are keeping the door open for a return to Fort Eustis when things are more stable and secure and who knows, we could even return to the base as a stand alone event sooner. Until then, we are excited to add the Oakland Industrial Criterium to the 2027 edition of the Tour of Newport News as the final event.

Do you own a business or brand and want to be apart of next year's event?

2027 planning has already started and a big part of that is securing sponsors. Every year we look to expand the event and create a better experience for the participants and spectators and it takes partners to do that.

When running the event it can be hard to see it how the riders might be seeing it. We see the hard work to get everything ready, having to leave the hill climb to finish setting up barriers downtown, solving gate access issues, trying to make due with the 1 out of 44 soldiers that showed up to course marshal and a dead moto official battery on Sunday. We don't make it easy on ourselves so we aren't complaining because after all, this event was built for you.

We don't really know how everybody felt about the event until we start seeing the posts or people coming up to us and sharing feedback. Our favorite post event time period is when the event photos and videos start getting posted by our media team, these give us that glimpse of how the riders were seeing the event and it really showcases the event to a new audience that maybe didn't know anything about it. We think we have assembled one of, if not the best media team in US Cycling and we can't wait to see all of their work. In the meantime give all of them a follow: , , .us , , . Omnium winners! The email with the link and code to order your free winners jersey from has just been sent out. Get your orders in quickly and you can have the jersey in your hands in around 6-7 weeks.

Huge positive Fort Eustis Circuit Race announcement!

All participants and spectators who have already been approved for access can go straight to the main gate and NO longer need to go through vehicle inspection (this is how it was in previous years). The gate will still be completing random vehicle inspections, but will NOT need to inspect every vehicle. If you are selected for a vehicle inspection you will be notified at the main gate and will be asked to pull over after passing through the gate for inspection. Please comply.

This clarification is definitely something that is going to help me sleep better at night leading up to the event because the logistics of inspecting every vehicle was terrifying.

Please do not bring any weapons or drugs on base. We still recommend arriving at least 1.5 hours early for your race. You can bring dogs and cats on base as long as you stay in control of them at all times.

Masters racers!

We know you often feel neglected and like an after thought at events when the focus is on the elite fields, but fret not, our friends at and have a special prize just for you.

Introduce the Pedal Bicycle Co. Boyd Wheel Super Prime! Masters riders regardless of age category are all competing for a Boyd Prologue Carbon Disc Wheelset. How it works is each prime during the mass start events is worth points that are separate from the omnium points. The rider with the most prime points accumulated at the end of the event regardless of age category is the winner!

The prime points for this competition will be taken as the raw finish order of the top 3 in every prime sprint, unlike the omnium point primes that are broken down by age category with each category being eligible for their own top 3 points.

Five years in and one of the most common questions we get is how do I get to the criterium parking with the road closures?

We have a simpler map and much better looking map in the event technical guide, but we really wanted to make it clearer. Above is how you can navigate the road closures for Saturday, April 11th.

It might be April Fools Day, but this post is not a joke. This is important information for Fort Eustis.

Fort Eustis has begun implementing vehicle inspections for all vehicles where the occupant does not have a Common Access Card (CAC). This means if you submitted information to us to get you approved, you will need to have your vehicle inspected before being allowed on base.

The above graphic shows the location of the inspection station relative to the pass office and main gate. Participants will keep right off of Washington Blvd and get on Dozier Rd. You will then pass the pass office on your left hand side, from there you will see a free standing roof structure ahead. That is the inspection station. There will be yard signs directing you to the inspection station.

When you arrive at the inspection station you will be asked to turn off your vehicle, open all of your doors, the hood, and the trunk. You may be asked to open your glove box and center console as well. This is a fairly quick process if you are prepared to follow the guards instructions. Be proactive and be prepared to do these things.

Please ensure that you do not have:

* Weapons (guns, knives, nunchucks, etc)
* Drugs
* Alcohol

If you have any of these things, they will find them, and you will be in trouble.

We recommend arriving earlier than previous years to account for the delay that vehicle inspections will cause. You should arrive no later than 1.5 hours before you are set to race, but 2 hours is a safer number to ensure you have ample time to get ready for your race. We also recommend car pooling if possible to reduce the number of vehicles that need to go through inspection.

If you have a CAC you can go straight to the main gate and you do not need to stop at vehicle inspection.
