DsK9s is now, New England Working K9 Club or (NEW K9 Club). For all of our past and present Clients, we would like to let you know that Derrike Lacross is Still our Founder, President, and lead Trainer. The change in name is directly related to our change in business structure. We are no longer a private business, but rather a Nonprofit Organization. We will be operating as a prestigious selective Club. We hope to provide an affordable outlet, for dedicated Working Dog owners, that they would not normally have or have to pay thousands of dollars for. We believe that the type of training these dogs require should not only be available to the rich or military enlisted/law enforcement employed. We also believe that people who are willing to dedicate the time to properly train their dog should not be financially burdened by it.

We are looking for all levels of members. From casual dog owners, to people looking to compete with their dogs, and possibly be a part of our board of directors. Group Obedience and Agility sessions will start in early Spring. Protection and Tracking training will also be available for advanced dogs.

ATTENTION! Love Dogs? Would you like to work with dogs on a regular basis, 1-2 days/ week? I am looking for 2-3 young, physically fit, mentally strong, and goal motivated individuals to help me in my future endeavors. Do not think of it as a job, but rather a hobby/skill in which you're time will be compensated for. This knowledge will last you a life time and being able to just share it with people around you will change lives forever.

We will be engaging in Schutzhund training, so our beginning stages will be me educating, and training you so that in the future you can be another set of training eyes and ears with other peoples dogs. It is not for everyone and the amount of work you will have to put into just learning the basics will ensure that the weak and unworthy will be weaned out quickly.

If you are unfamiliar with Schutzhund/IPO or working dog trials in general here is a nice little example of a Schutzhund competition trial. Inquire for more details!

This is a picture that tells a story about the canine species, both beautiful and balanced. They are in a conflict, true. However you can see that one is Alpha and one is Omega. This conflict will not last long, and because of it the pack will only be stronger and more balanced.

People who have multiple dogs often forget that they do not have dogs. They have a pack. Within the pack natural order needs to be established. That order will not stay the same forever. Within packs, Alphas will lose their position to a younger stronger pack member if it is to be.

When you have a pack you, must let your Alpha rule and when their time is up you must let new charge take place. To be safe I would advise to always keep members of the same s*x at least 2-3 years apart. This allows for a more natural take over to occur. When current Alpha starts to lose ground to age, the younger should naturally take over with little conflict. If during these trials human intervention takes place, you disturb the order and things become more difficult.

While having a pack I advise you not let your dogs conflict around food, toys, humans, or in the house in general. Outside, if none of the above are present, and they start battling, it is a normal trial of rank establishment and you must let it play out. This needs to be done from when the puppy is 8 weeks old up. Older balanced dogs have an incredible gauge of how much force to use and if you allow them to set the tone early in life, the dogs relationship will be that much stronger.

This a highly in depth subject so I advise anyone who looks to have a pack contact us for guidance and support.

A simple game of fetch can be turned into training, if you know your dogs well, and have the skill to do so.

When you find yourself with a dog, you can either hire a trainer, or become the trainer. I advise the latter. However if you were going to become a Carpenter or a Blacksmith, who would you learn from? People already in the trade. Their is no end point in dog training, only new obstacles to clear and hurdles to climb and conquer. Ds K9s will work with you, and your dog, to ensure you are the best k9/handler team possible. Don't wait till it's too cold, or your dog is too old! Start today!

Very first time I have seen an Irish Wolfhound. Amazing dog, and definitely one I would like to come across again in the future.
