Champagne sailing conditions on Day 2 of the IC37 Class Association Kickoff facilitated three sharp races on Upper Narragansett Bay. While everyone was gunning for the win, the real prize is next week at the 172nd Annual Regatta and through the rest of the 2026 IC37 season. Still the results were tallied and the winners walked off with a nice bottle of rum after a perfect day of sailing.
2026 IC37 Kickoff

IC37 Class Coach Moose McClintock was adamant for Day 1 of the IC37 Kickoff, which was a full practice day for all teams. "Don't waste your time speed testing today. Work on boathandling." So the focus was on turning the corners, tacking and jibing and shifting gears. There were a few short races, but no one was worried about the placing. It was all about making steps toward crew cohesion and better understanding of how to optimize the IC37 and its all-purpose sail package across the range of conditions.

With boats overlapped at the finish of all three races, the competition today was as close as it gets. Eager crews, flat water and 8 to 18 knots of breeze set the stage for an incredibly competitive day of racing at the IC37 Kickoff.
With a 4 1 2 score line, Peter McClennens showed that they were definitely the fastest boat out there today 🏆

Practice makes perfect. For many fleets that is an individual team activity but for the it looks a little different. This weekend the fleet is hosting the annual IC37 Kickoff practice weekend.
For day one the focus was on boat handling. Class coach Moose McClintock emphasized the value of sharpening crew choreography early in the season.
