TODD TREONZE
I’m a Rhode Island based angler who lives two blocks from the Narragansett Bay and live to fish every chance I get. I have been fishing Hobie Kayaks for over 6 years and have enjoyed fishing both salt and fresh water throughout New England during that time. While my favorite fish to target are Striped Bass in the summer, I can often be found in a dry suit fishing the edge seasons in April and December for Black Sea Bass and Tautog. When not fishing I am on the board of a local non-profit that supports public waterfront access rights for all Rhode Island residents and our states visitors. I also own my own Fishing Apparel business that can be found online at www href="://hookdgear.com.">://hookdgear.com.
JONNY REGO
My name is Jonny Rego, and I am a lifelong fisherman and outdoorsman. Rhode Island has always been my home;I was born in the small town of Portsmouth where scenic beaches were just minutes away. Being surrounded by the ocean, I guess it was only a matter of time until I became addicted to fishing.
One of the most defining moments in my life came at the young age of seven, the first time I ever held a fishing rod. My grandfather took me and my brother out scup fishing on his boat “Just Kidding” with nothing but a pack of hotdogs and a few hooks. An interesting choice of bait for sure, but the second my first scup hit the deck, a lifelong passion for angling was ignited.
From there, my parents became very accustomed to dropping me off at various fishing spots on a weekly basis, rain or shine. From catching scup and snapper blues off of my grandfather’s dock, to fishing destroyed bridges for tautog, I slowly but surely began to learn more and more about Rhode Island’s fisheries and marine life. Once I finally got my drivers license, the floodgates opened up. I became obsessed with finding productive fishing grounds, crazy feeding frenzies, and more specifically, catching big striped bass. Through years of trial and error and a lot of hard lessons learned, I transformed from a kid who didn’t really know what he was doing, into a surfcaster with a lot of valuable local knowledge under my belt.
I also began to delve into the art of ocean kayak angling, fishing from high end kayaks like Hobie and Old Town and later becoming a member of the Old Town and Wickford Kayak Centre fishing team. This has allowed me to explore new waters and fish in ways I did not think possible. Now I split my time kayak fishing and surfcasting in my home waters of Rhode Island and still learn something new about our fishery every season.
