Future show horse, current baby moose vibes. 🫎✨

Meet Justifiably Royal KME aka “Rory”! By Jazzy Dancer, our Belgian Warmblood stallion, and out of Royal Queen. Jazzy Dancer is sired by Titan (Goldfalk/Grande/Lugano van la Roche lines) out of a Merry Dancer x Franat dam line, blending Holsteiner power with Thoroughbred refinement.

She’s got the breeding, the movement, and the attitude of a future fancy show horse. She’s also got the body of a baby moose, the legs of a white-tailed deer, and a tendency to ping-pong around the pasture. 😂🦌

Big, beautiful gray mare in the making. For now, we’re enjoying every second of her baby moose era. ❤️

Yesterday we loaded up several horses and headed out for an obstacle course day, and everyone had an absolute blast.

Jewels was up first and this was a pretty big day for her. She’s only 3 years old has fewer than 10 rides under her belt and this was her very first ride off property. She walked right off the trailer, took everything in, and handled the obstacles with little to no concern. I can’t say I was surprised because this mare continues to show us what a good brain she has, but I was still SO impressed with her.

Rebel came along specifically to work through some of his old claustrophobic worries, and apparently he wanted to show us those days may be behind him. This is a horse who used to sit back when tied and struggled loading into my smaller two horse trailer. (This has become a specialty of mine to work through with horses). Yesterday he loaded, stood tied to the trailer alone for about 45 minutes completely content and then went through each obstacle with minimal concern. When something did worry him, he was quick to listen to his rider and work through it. He loves his Bella!

We also learned that Rebel is HIGHLY motivated by snacks. 😂 Specifically animal crackers. And yes, I am absolutely a fan of using treats as a reward in situations like this. If I can help a horse associate a new or previously stressful experience with something positive, I’m all for it.

Then came Autumn, Cletus, and Nash.

Autumn absolutely blew us away. How many 4.5 year olds can walk off the trailer somewhere new and casually carry a teenager around BA****CK through obstacles they’ve never seen before?! She acted like she had been doing it her entire life. This pony is so ready for a kid of her own. She earned herself an entire highlight video that I’ll post later.

Cletus was our saintly experienced guy. He helped calm nerves, showed the younger horses the way through the harder obstacles, and generally reminded everyone why having a seasoned horse around is worth its weight in gold.

And Nash got humbled just a little bit. 😂 Some of the obstacles required his 4-year old brain to do some serious thinking, but he took in everything he could and handled himself really well. He tries SO hard to do the right thing for his rider, Paige. I loved watching the two of them work through things together. Paige has developed into quite the hand and her feel and timing is allowing this young gelding to develop into such a nice pony.

Days like this are such an important part of how I want our horses developed. I want horses that can do their job in an arena, but I also want horses that can leave the arena, think through something unfamiliar, regulate themselves when they’re unsure, and trust their rider enough to try.

Sometimes the best training day doesn’t look much like “training” at all.

Wild Autumn Breeze aka “Autumn” 🍂

Autumn is young and green, but she is incredibly kind, easygoing, and sensible. She has traveled quite a bit for her age and has always handled herself exceptionally well. She is definitely more of a push ride and is in absolutely no hurry to get anywhere fast.

Because of her age and experience, I wouldn’t consider her appropriate for a complete beginner yet, but I think an advanced beginner or intermediate rider could easily enjoy her in a professional program.

She has done a little bit of everything so far from hunters, trails, fun shows, traveling, swimming, and plenty of exposure to life outside the arena.

For her very first horse show, Autumn traveled 10 hours to WEC Ohio and was so well behaved that no one believed me when I told them how recently she had been started under saddle. She took the entire experience in stride.

I’ve intentionally taken my time developing this mare. I haven’t been in a hurry with her, and I think that has paid off. She has a great brain, a sweet personality, and I really believe she is ready for a person of her own.

She also LOVES to swim and is an absolute blast on the trails.

She does however require a stuffed animal when traveling… not in the trailer but in stalls at shows… she’s a funny little mare and loves to play with things so if her stuffed animal is not hanging in her stall then she will resort to playing in her water buckets 🙈. We found this out at WEC and managed to buy her a giant flamingo 🦩 that she loved.

My preference is to find someone interested in care leasing Autumn on property at KME for at least one month, with a minimum of one lesson per week. After that first month, if it’s a good match, I would consider allowing her to leave for an off site lease for a small fee plus insurance.

I would also be open to hearing serious offers on a sale to the right home. I’m in no hurry to sell her and genuinely believe she is worth hanging onto and continuing to develop into something really special, so it would take the right offer for me to consider letting her go.

We had such a fun day at the Newton Saddle Club show!

Amelia Roseberry and Sabino participated in their first ever horse show and came home with several top placings, including a WIN in the Youth Novice Reining!! These two have only been partners for a short period of time and I am already so impressed with them. I’m really excited to see where this partnership goes.

Aribella Funk and Blaze killed it in the barrels and speed events! They ran a 21 second barrel time and a 12 second arena race. These two had a blast and were so much fun to watch!

Paige Smith and Nash for Dash continued to show off just how versatile they are, bringing home top placings in the judged events AND the speed events. They absolutely flew through the arena race with a 10 second time and won the class! Apparently Nash didn’t get the memo that he’s supposed to be a hunter pony. 😅

I’m so proud of these kids and the way they represent KME.

All three of them work so hard, not only during their lessons but in all the time they spend at the barn outside of lessons too. One of my favorite things has been watching them develop such a strong drive to learn. Not just how to win a class or ride one type of horse, but how to become better horsewomen.

Very, very proud trainer over here. ❤️

Pennwood Washington aka Neo enjoying some time in the orchard grazing down the grass.

This handsome guy is one of our newest additions to our breeding program. We’ve kept him a secret the last few months as we’ve gotten to know him.

He’s an imported Section B welsh stallion standing at 12.2 hh (crosses well with full sized horses!). He adds refinement and out of this world movement. Not to mention he is incredibly kind and easy to handle.

K&M Equestrian Now Hiring – Newton, KS

K&M Equestrian is looking to hire 1-2 dependable team members to join our farm staff immediately.

Available Shifts:

AM & Lunch Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
PM Feeding Shift: 2:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Job Duties Include:

Morning, lunch, and/or evening feedings
Watering and daily horse care
Minimal stall cleaning
Basic grooming
Monitoring horses for injuries, illness, or changes in behavior
Providing basic first aid care when needed
General barn chores and maintaining a clean, organized facility

Requirements:

Previous horse experience required
Confident handling horses safely and independently
Ability to recognize signs of injury, illness, or lameness
Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Self-starter with strong attention to detail
Able to work independently without constant supervision
Comfortable communicating updates and concerns

This position requires someone who can take ownership of their responsibilities. I do not micromanage, and there will be times when I am away at horse shows and relying on this person to keep me informed about the day-to-day care of the horses and farm.

You never know what the day will bring. One day we are trail riding, horse show the next day. Trail ride is the best way to get the horse mentally and physically prepared for the show. Great way to get them out of the arena and doing something different. It also gives us a feel what job will fit a horse the best. To make sure we can reach the horses for potential. This way, if you ever lease or buy. You know that the horses have been on trails and don’t have to worry about that.
