🔥 IBJJF New York Spring Open 🔥
🥇 No‑Gi Black Belt Featherweight Champion
🥈 Open Weight Black Belt Silver Medalist

🥇 Walked in sharp, walked out with gold at Featherweight Blackbelt M2. Closed the finals with a RNC after going up 9–0 (should of been 13-0 but I didn’t get my points for mount)

🥈 Jumped into open weight, hit my infamous hammer lock to submit the middleweight champion in the semis at 11-0, then got absolutely flattened by the #1 Masters 2 super heavyweight in the finals 😅

🥇 But the real highlight was winning alongside my student Sean, who took gold at purple belt lightweight M2 on his birthday! What a way to celebrate, congratulations 🎉

Relax, it’s just a joke, I actually love the Gi…
…but let’s be honest, this is 100% the Gi of the future 😂

Sambo has it right with the shorts 🩳 feel that breeze 💨 Now we just need to get rid of those pesky sleeves! And obviously, you’ve gotta wear every rank from every art you train in to show how cool you are 🙃

👊 If Jiu Jitsu were easy, it’d be called Sambo.

🥈 Took a little side quest yesterday and jumped into my first real Sambo competition, walked out with Second Place at Nationals , four matches deep with a 75% submission rate. Not bad for throwing on a Kurtka (Sambo uniform) for the first time and competing at straight walking weight. Maybe next time I’ll cut weight 🤷🏻‍♂️

🙌 Huge shoutout to David for cornering me. We were the only Jiu Jitsu guys in the Sambo world today, but we held it down.

🙏 And as always, thank you to my coaches & , and to all my students at for pushing me every day.

🧠 The lesson: step outside your comfort zone and try something new. I didn’t fully understand the ruleset going in, but like any game, you learn fast when you’re in it. Never stop growing 🌱

• ✅ Break their posture—control the head or collar to keep them down
• ✅ Isolate one arm—use your grip to trap it across your centerline
• ✅ Open your guard—shift your hips out to the side
• ✅ Swing your leg over their trapped arm—aim to hook behind their back
• ✅ Finish by sitting up & leaning forward—apply pressure to the shoulder for the tap
