Open Water class completion!
Congrats to Logan, Ethan and Alec who completed the class on 20 June at The Original Vortex Spring. Skies were overcast and vis was around 10-15' from other divers kicking up the basin, but these guys did a good job to stay off the bottom. We kept the group together and they did a nice job with the skills and improved buoyancy and trim control from earlier in the course. Go forth and dive!

Open Water pool skills
Logan and dad Alec joined me in the pool on 17 June to work on basic skills. Everything went 'swimmingly' and they are ready to progress to the Open Water dives.

Open Water graduates!
Congrats to James (16) and Alejandro who completed the class at the Destin Jetties on June 14th. They progressed well throughout the training the past two weeks and are ready to experience "the other half of Florida!" Eric and Sebastian, prior students, joined us. The 30' vis was good for this site. The highlight was certainly seeing a spotted eagle ray and I got a short clip. We saw a pufferfish, flounder and I was able to cut a fishing line from the mouth of a toadfish without getting stung. Nice job guys!

Open Water dives at The Original Vortex Spring
James, Alejandro, Logan, Ethan and Alec completed some of the Open Water dives towards certification on 13 June. They worked on mask removal and replacement and buddy-assisted air share ascents, among other skills. Vis was only 10-15' in the basin with several other divers in training. This required the new divers to stay close to their buddy and we had no buddy separation issues. More dives to follow for this class so stay tuned ...

Royal Caribbean cruise 8-15 March (the 2nd half of the story) out of San Juan
So I said I'd get around to this post, it just took a while ...
Liz joined me with friends Kristi, Ron, Elena, Jerry, Diane, Russ, Rob and Toni 12-15 March with port calls in Aruba and Bonaire. As in the last post on the 1st half of this trip, this cruise was mostly about the diving, but the dining and entertainment were great too. We dove in Aruba with Red Sail Sports off Oranjested on the 400' Antilla German freighter and Pedernalis oil tanker. Lots of large pufferfish and loggerhead turtles. In Bonaire near Kralendijk we rented tanks and vehicles and did shore dives on the Hilma Ho**er wreck/reef and then the Salt Pier. It was an epic trip!
