Did you know Pilates helps prevent back pain and improve your spine mobility?
Pilates movements allow you to focus on each vertebra in your spine as an individual, rather than the whole spine itself. This helps encourage your vertebrae to stay in correct alignment.
Next time you're on the mat, why not throw in some spine stretches.
As Joseph Pilates says, “You're only as young as your spine is flexible!”

Breath is one of the most important principles in Pilates. Joseph Pilates encourages those practicing Pilates to think of their lungs as bellows to strongly pump air in and out of the body.
“To breathe correctly you must completely exhale and inhale, always trying very hard to squeeze every atom of impure air from your lungs in much the same manner that you would wring every drop of water from a wet cloth,” said Joseph Pilates.
Flow is also critical in the practice. All movements in Pilates are done in a flowing manner with fluidity, grace, and ease. It also allows you to connect all areas of your body evenly.

Control ensures that your mind is directing your muscles to make conscious, deliberate movements. While precision, encourages the coordination of balance, control and flow.

It’s time to bring your focus to the center of your body or your “powerhouse.” Joseph Pilates was the one that created the concept of the Pilates Powerhouse, which refers to your “core” or the foundation of all your movement.
All movements in Pilates originate from your “powerhouse” or the center of your body. By centering your body, you are bringing together both your body and your spirit.
