Good morning everybody. Looks like this misty rain is supposed to last until almost noon.
Will be open for delivery today instead of bait stand.

Stocked on live worms, Xmas trout corn, powerbait, and all lures and tackle.

If rain stops before 10:00, then I will open the bait stand until 2:30

Bonito Update: Thursday, October 1st 2026
Debris has been removed from the road from the spots that were in water as well as the giant boulder.
Road has been made accessible and traversable for all vehicles.
They did not have time to do full repairs on the road so do take it slower than average due to potholes in several spots.
All retention ponds held at just under capacity and no debris entered the lake but a surge of muddy Water does have the lake looking quite brown.
If going out for fishing would highly recommend strong scented baits, high glitter flash, dark silhouetted lures such as blacks, dark blue, and watermelon greens as well as high water disrupting spinners and choppy lures.
Trout will not be able to see very well in that water so they will be looking for strong scent, silhouettes and trying to sense water disruption as primary hunting strategy.

Debris hidden in the mud in Bonito. Drive with extreme caution in multiple areas of Bonita Lake Road until road crew gets it cleared.
The Bonito river is out of its banks to a small degree. Not enough to affect campers but enough to cause some hazards on the road.

Warning! 9/30/26 Wednesday 7:15 am
Flowing water and debris in multiple sections of fr-107 Bonita Lake Road.
Water and debris underneath the damn and the lake, just after the dumpsters past South Fork, the turnoff from Tanbark towards the Stables is nothing but flowing water on the second half and a massive Boulder has rolled into the road at the spillway heading up the hill of the dam on the road.
They are in route to get everything cleared and get the berms reestablished and the road safe again but they are also working on other areas that were hit as well and will get there as quickly as they can.

Kids free fishing bait bowl will be available again next weekend at the Bonito Lake Bait Stand!
There is still a good amount of pre-purchased Baits and lures 100% free to any child under the age of 18.
*Children age 12 and over are required to have a fishing license.
No purchase necessary for free bait.
1 per child

*2 Highlights from Sunday:
1. Had a 16 year old teenager about lose his mind when he saw a custom bass urchin lure in the bucket.
2. A dad trying to coach his daughter to grab the chartreuse green garlic power bait jar and the little lady being absolutely dedicated to the panfish rattle trap lure.

Those little things make ideas like this 100% worth it

BONITO Sunday Roundup: 09/27

Thank you all for a fantastic weekend!

Fishing Report: Green garlic powerbait, avocado green garlic powerbait, Red NM X-Mas Trout Corn,
Rooster tails, pistol petes were all reported as effective.

Kids free bait bowl was very successful! Many kids enjoyed free worms, powerbait, lures, Xmas corn.
The bowl got down to about a quarter capacity then another $50 in donations came in for the bowl through various customers and followers and filled the bowl back up.
Free bait for kids will continue next weekend. still many varieties of baits and lures in the bowl for the kids. Absolutely free no purchase necessary one bait per kid.

Take it slow between South Fork and just after the dumpsters due to the still flowing springs

One of the best ways to prepare rainbow trout.
Cut off the head, gut and scale, score, let bathe in salt, black pepper, dried crushed green chilies, garlic and thyme while you cut your chips.
Start the chips first in olive oil with garlic salt then add the fish right before you flip the potatoes.
