WELCOME BACK BOOSTER CLUB BOWLERS!
π We will again be having another Points Race this season! π After several years of doing our best to try to make the Points Race as fun and fair as possible, we have made a few modifications this season to make it the best Points Race yet.
Below is an outline of how we will run the Race this season:
π We will award points to the top 50 finishers in each division after each of our Sunday 8 Game Sweeper events.
π The winner of each sweeper in each division will receive 275 points for the event. (250 for the "position" plus an additional 25 points for the "win" for a total of 275.)
π For the other 49 places we award points based on the position finish and decrease each position by 5 point increments. (2nd = 245, 3rd =240 and so on until the 50th place position earning 5 points.)
π As always, bowler can only earn points for the season in one division. Bowlers MUST declare at their first event which division they would like to earn points in. Bowlers who bowl in both divisions through out the season will only earn points in their declared division, and their points in the other division will be considered unearned.
π Points standings are usually published Monday or Tuesday after each event with updates from the weekend. Please be sure to check the points list after your first event for your name to ensure you are appearing in the correct division you declared. Division changes will not be permitted once you have entered your second event for the season. Bowlers are responsible for declaring their division to Terrie Cruz and checking their division is correct after their first event.
WHAT YOU ARE EARNING POINTS FOR:
In recent years we have held an invitational tournament for our points race winners to compete for prizes. β οΈ For the 2026-2027 season, we are eliminating the end of the season points race invitational. β οΈ We are doing this for multiple reasons, but the biggest of which being we have had several bowlers qualify for the invitational event, but not being able to attend due to the scheduled date and time, causing that bowler to earn the bottom prize, regardless of how they performed through the season. Below is the new format as well as new rules being added for the event:
π In lieu of an end of the season tournament, Points Race prize winners will be determined based on the bowler's performance in the season long Points Race. The bowler who finishes the Points Race season in 1st place will win the first place prize for the season, and so on for subsequent places and prizes. This means your participation and performance in each regular season 8 Game Sunday sweepers will determine how you finish in the Points Race.
π In January of 2027 we should have a pretty good idea of the average number of bowlers we have competing in each division for the season. At that point we will be able to announce the prize fund as well as the number of positions we will be paying in each division. Historically, we have more than twice the participants in the Handicap division all season than we do in the Scratch division. If this proves to be the same this year, the Handicap division will have more positions to place in because there is a larger amount paid by the bowlers into the prize fund. Again, we will be able to tell you in January how many spots bowlers are competing for. Be sure to declare the division that you want to participate in at your first event.
π The prizes awarded will be cash prizes. No extra bowling necessary to earn your winnings. If you are in first place in the points race in your division after the completion of the last event of the season, you will be awarded the first place prize (*see next rule).
π To be included in the payout of prize money for the Points Race, a bowler MUST BOWL A MINIMUM OF 5 REGULAR SEASON EVENTS. This is 5 separate 8 game Sunday sweepers. (Other events that the PBA Booster Club may run through the season are NOT points race eligible, including but not limited to Pro-Ams, pre-regional Friday night sweepers and Pre-Regional Scratch sweepers.) Points are only issued for our regular events. 5 events is roughly equal to 1/3 of our season give or take. A bowler begins earning points the first event they bowl, but will not be Points Race prize eligible until they have bowled their 5th event.
We began the points race as a way to reward our most loyal bowlers while also rewarding good performance. While we loved running the end of the season tournament, we really want the points race prizes to be awarded based on your season long performance rather than the performance on a single day. We hope you all enjoy this new format and we look forward to cheering you on all year! It is sure to be another exciting season.
