My father always said, “Give credit where credit is due.”

Thirty-five years ago today, I opened the doors of Classical Ballet Academy at 2433 Wilcox Drive.

Through the encouragement and guidance of my ballet instructor, Yvonne Chouteau, I had the courage to design, build, and ultimately own the building that became the home of my dance studio, Classical Ballet Academy.

So, thank you, Yvonne Chouteau—or, as we lovingly called her, Miss Chouteau—for your words of encouragement, your support, and your direction. Your belief in me helped give me the confidence to take that step and, ultimately, the stability and security of owning my own building.

I will always be grateful for the influence you had on my life, both as a teacher and as a mentor.

Yesterday was Miguel Terekhov’s birthday. He would have been 98. Happy birthday Mr. T and thank you for everything you you taught me!

In 1991, I found the perfect location for my dream: Classical Ballet Academy, Inc. I purchased the lot, created the layout, and designed every detail of the dance studio I had envisioned. Within just a few months, that dream became a reality.

The studio features large dance rooms with expansive mirrors, double ballet barres securely attached to the walls, and specially recessed concrete floors designed to accommodate sprung flooring with a Marley surface.

In a remarkable number of months, Classical Ballet Academy, Inc., located at 2433 Wilcox Drive, was established. Through years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, I was incredibly proud to have the building owned free and clear by 2001.

Now, the time has come for someone else to take over the space that has meant so much to me. It’s time for someone new to love it as much as I did.

The building will soon be available for lease and is already ideally suited for a dance studio, Pilates, karate, or other similar uses. With some modifications, the dance rooms could also be converted into office space.

This building holds so many wonderful memories for me, and I would love to see it continue to be a place where people create, learn, grow, and pursue their passions.

Birdie Banks, a longtime ballet student of Classical Ballet Academy, returned for a few classes before heading off to ABT in New York City for the summer. 💗

I came across this little gem just now! My mother took me to the ballet when I was little so that I could see Miss Chouteau and Mr.Terekhov, as well as my ballet teacher, Brenda Bowman. Best mom ever! ♥️
