While the first American TV station began broadcasting on July 2, 1928, the first debate between major party presidential candidates wasn’t shown on TV until 1960. The candidates? Then serving Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy and then serving VP Richard M. Nixon. Kennedy won the first debate and the election.

Policy Debate The University of Oklahoma's policy debate team is a program of OU’s Honors College. In 2009, the team received a generous endowment from the McClendon family, and was reborn as the Shannon Self policy debate team.
