What if the reason you can't find a job has nothing to do with you?

1.9 million Americans have been out of work for 6+ months. That's 27% of all job seekers (BLS, August 2026).

Here's the strange part: there's no recession to blame. So people blame themselves.

One job seeker with 20+ years of experience told Business Insider he'd heard "It's not you, it's us" so many times he started to wonder if it WAS him. Read More: https://nevans.esourcecoach.com/blog/?utm_source=SOCI_Parameter

It wasn't. The rules changed. Nobody told him. You can't control the market.

You CAN control whether you keep playing a game with old rules.

I am not a recruiter. Not a résumé writer. I am a guide who helps you get clear on what you want and explore every option, including ones you've never considered.

Unscripted, unprompted, and exactly why Career Ownership Coaching™ works.

A client recently shared this about working with her Career Ownership Coach® at The Entrepreneur's Source®:

"What stands out most is her ability to create clarity during times of change or uncertainty. She doesn't simply tell you what you should do instead she helps you discover the right path for yourself."

That line is the whole point. A Career Ownership Coach® isn't there to hand you an answer. They're there to help you find your own with perspective, encouragement, and honest questions when you're navigating change or wondering what's next.

What happens when the "safe path" stops feeling safe?

For decades, the advice never changed: get the degree, get the job, build the life.

That promise is cracking. Only 35% of Americans now call college "very important." In 2013, it was 70% (Gallup, 2025).

This isn't just a college story. It's a career story. Families are asking if the path pays off. Shouldn't you ask that about your job?

Millions of working adults are quietly asking it about the job they already have. The old script promised security. Today it delivers uncertainty.

Career ownership isn't about throwing away what you've built. It's about choosing work that fits the life you actually want. A Career Ownership Coach® helps you explore options you didn't know existed and it's completely free.

What would you do differently if you knew the "safe"choice was never really safe? Is it time to leave your corporate job? Take our assessment: https://nevans.esourcecoach.com/assessments/?utm_source=SOCI_Assessment

What if the most valuable skill on your résumé is one you've never listed?

It's reinvention. And more are being asked to use it than at any time in recent memory out of necessity.

Slow hiring, rolling layoffs, and AI rewriting job descriptions have created what some are calling the reinvention economy.

Bonnie, a typical client, lived it. After a layoff, her job search stalled. So she stopped searching and started building: Read more: https://nevans.esourcecoach.com/blog/?utm_source=SOCI_Parameter

If you won $1 billion tomorrow, what would you actually change?

Someone in Quincy, Illinois, is answering that for real. On August 12, a single ticket sold at a Hy-Vee gas station matched every number for a $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot.

Here's what strikes us. Ask people what they'd do with a jackpot, and the answers are rarely about the money. They're about what the money buys. Leaving a job that drains you. Setting your own schedule. Building something for your kids. Not having to ask permission.

That's not a lottery wish. That's a career ownership wish.

The odds of hitting a Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292 million. The odds of building income and lifestyle on your own terms are far better because they depend on a plan, not a drawing.

In the TES Generational Career Confidence Survey, 83% of Americans said business ownership is a viable alternative to a traditional career, and 80% of employees said it offers more control over their careers.

You don't need a winning ticket to change your answer to "what would I change?"

I will help you explore what your future could look like without waiting on a drawing. Your odds start improving the day you start planning.

Did your raise just get quietly canceled?

If your pay went up about 3% this year, inflation took it back and then took a little more.

In August, the Consumer Price Index rose 3.4% from a year earlier. Average hourly earnings rose 3.1%.

Do the math, and the average worker's inflation-adjusted hourly pay slipped about 0.2% over the year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That's the quiet trap of a traditional paycheck. You can get the raise, hit the goals, earn the review and still end the year able to buy a little less than you could the year before.

Business owners face inflation too. But they hold a lever employees don't: they can adjust pricing, add revenue streams and build equity in something they own, rather than simply spending income someone else sets.

If your raise isn't keeping up, the answer may not be a bigger raise. It may be a different relationship with your income altogether.

How does ageism show up at work? Rarely as a policy. Usually as an assumption.

In AARP's new survey of workers 50 and older, 64% said they had seen or experienced age discrimination on the job. Ask what it looks like day to day?

It shows up as being assumed less tech-savvy. As the assumption that you resist change. As generational jokes, expertise that goes unrecognized, and training that goes to someone younger.

What if the thing you are being penalized for is just not true? For Example: In five years, the number of workers 50+ listing skills like AI grew 25%, almost twice the pace of younger workers. Read More: https://nevans.esourcecoach.com/blog/?utm_source=SOCI_Parameter

What if the skill your next raise depends on is one nobody can define yet?

"Good at AI" is becoming a line item in performance reviews. Some companies now tie pay to it

The catch: most employers still can't say what good AI use looks like.

So the target moves. It looks different in every job. And it's judged by managers who are still figuring it out themselves. That's the exhausting part of a traditional career right now: your compensation is tied to a standard someone else hasn't finished writing.

Business owners use AI too. The difference is who decides whether it's working. When you own the business, "good at AI" means one thing: did it help you serve customers, save time, or grow?

In the TES Generational Career Confidence Survey, 61% of Americans said business ownership is the best protection against AI making a career obsolete, and 80% of employees said ownership gives them more control over their careers.

What happens when the people who always had a job suddenly can't find one?

For decades, people who were always employed with steady résumés and long tenures, historically, had the best odds of landing the next job. A new analysis from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond says not anymore.

This survey found that their job-finding rate fell by 13 percentage points. That's the steepest drop of any group in the study. The steadiest résumé in the room is no longer the best in the room.

That's why so many people are asking a different question. Not "How do I find the next job?" but "How do I stop depending on someone else to give me one?"

I can help you explore whether a path from Employment to Empowerment™ fits your goals. No pressure, just possibilities.

He did everything right and still can’t stop thinking about what it cost him.

A frontend developer with a decade of experience learned in March that his company was shutting down. Wife, two-year-old son, a programming job market he’d read enough about to dread.

So he started planning before the paycheck stopped, which almost nobody does.

He pivoted and researched trades. He got a job. It cost him 30% of his income and his remote work.
