“Cold training” — winter practice dedicated to polishing body, mind, and spirit.

For the third year in a row, Wadokai Aikido gathered at the 4-H Center at Holiday Lake in Appomattox, VA — a place with deep roots in our organization. This is where Suenaka Sensei held winter camp in the 1990s and early 2000s, and it continues to be a space of challenge, connection, and growth.

We are grateful to carry forward the lineage Sensei created and the Ohana he built.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who attended, to those who helped set up and support the weekend, and to Taylor Shihan for his teaching and guidance throughout camp.

Cold training. Warm hearts. Strong spirit.
Already looking forward to next year.

#寒稽古 Ohana AikidoCamp Takemusu Budo

We lost a wonderful lady earlier this week. Sensei’s wife, Kanako-Sama, passed away peacefully in her home December 1st. Her son John, daughter Valerie, grandson Atao, and the whole Wadokai Ohana mourns her loss.

This month we’re starting aikido classes at the Wando Public Library Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons! 🥋

🗓️ Tuesdays 11:00am-12:00pm: 11/4, 11/18, & 11/25

🗓️ Thursdays 4:00-5:00pm: 11/6, 11/13, and 11/20

No class 11/11 or 11/27

This is free and open for anyone 15 years or older to join. Minors must have parental permission.

It was a great session last Friday evening!
We had beautiful weather, good energy, and some new faces.

It was also David’s first time training with us — welcome! Not pictured is his lovely wife, Dana, who joined us for a bit too. She was one of Suenaka Sensei’s karate students back in the day (and was walking their adorable toddler during the photo 😄).
