Little Flippers

If you are a member of the Hays Center in NLR we do free group lessons Mondays at 10. You have to be over 50 to be a member. The membership is only 45 dollars for the whole year.

Our last swim session begins this week. We still have a few dates left if you had plans to swim with us this summer.

I can’t believe this summer has gone by so fast. We have taught so many people, the ones we started with this year seem like they were here last summer.

If you decided to freeze your lessons they will be carried over till next year. Life happens but we always honor what you paid for.

We thank you so much for allowing us to be such an important part of your lives!

I think we may need to reschedule our early afternoon classes. I’ll post in a little while with some updates on late afternoon and evening classes.

I see where 5 people have lost their lives in a rip current over the last couple of days. This is something I cover extensively with the swimmers who are old enough to understand.

If you get caught in a rip tide don’t fight it! Do not try and swim to the shore. If you can float or even swim parallel to the beach it doesn’t take much effort to get out. Just following the coastline till the current ends and you can swim
to shore when you get out of the current. I’ve personally been caught in two.

Here is a picture of a rip. This current will push you away from the shore. Just go sideways along the coast till the rip ends. You may have to walk a bit to get back to where you started but you won’t get washed out to sea.

Please tell everyone you know that is planning a trip to the beach. Make sure to avoid these areas if you see them. Always respect the red flags on a beach.

When you see me pushing water towards someone at the pool after they have learned to swim, we are not playing games. We are learning not to panic in a waterfall or current.

Had these people known this, we would have never heard about it on the news.

We tried to resume lessons thinking it was ok and it started thundering. If everyone would go ahead and reschedule I appreciate it. So sorry for the inconvenience.

There is no rain here but the clouds are hovering over us. This is what the map shows when I fast forward to 1:00. What do y’all think? This is moving towards us but we may be just on the edge. Never know in Arkansas

All of our after classes have been moved to another time. Sorry for the inconvenience y’all. I plan to start back up around 5 unless the storm that is approaching NWA heads this way. I’ll either post here or text y’all if it looks like it’s going to be bad or the water gets too cold.

We went ahead and canceled the morning classes. It’s been sprinkling here but it also gave me a little extra time to work on everything the gully washer took out of Friday.

When you come through the gate please stay to your left on the green astroturf. That area is uneven from everything underneath there being washed out. We keep fixing it, it just keeps raining.

I’m in the water now, if it gets cold or the weather looks bad here for the afternoon classes I’ll let y’all know shortly.
