1. I didn’t have a preconceived perception of Michael or Duke’s Gym because I had been told by a friend/gym member that Michael was a strict trainer who genuinely wanted the best for his clients and wouldn’t stop pushing until they succeeded. I knew I would be pushed beyond my comfort zone, and honestly, that was exactly what I wanted.
2. I was completely exhausted, both mentally and physically, but I knew I had to keep going. There were days when I was pushed to levels I had never experienced before, but I continued to show up, put in the work, and trust the process.
3. I never truly wanted to quit because I could see the results other Duke’s Gym members were achieving. Their transformations motivated me and made me believe that I could achieve those same results if I stayed committed.
4. Michael’s meal plans kept me accountable and taught me how important nutrition was to my progress. I followed the plan closely and ate exactly what was outlined. Combining proper nutrition with challenging workouts allowed me to start seeing results.
5. I became frustrated when I couldn’t figure out what a workout was based on its name alone. Instead of letting that discourage me, I took the initiative to learn. I would Google the exercises, print the workouts, and review them before going to the gym so I could walk in prepared and know exactly what I was supposed to do.
6. Duke’s pushed me to finally make a real change. After years of putting off taking control of my health and dragging my feet, I reached a point where I knew I had to do something different. I didn’t have a choice—I had to succeed. Duke’s pushed me outside of my comfort zone, held me accountable, and showed me that I was capable of much more than I ever thought.
7. I’m not sure what other people may have misunderstood about Duke’s, but I definitely underestimated how friendly, welcoming, and nonjudgmental everyone at the gym would be. I expected a typical gym environment where everyone kept to themselves, but instead I found a community of people who genuinely support and encourage one another. That made a huge difference in my experience.
8. Michael is not an asshole—he’s strict and expects results. There were definitely moments when the frustration brought me to tears. But looking back, I needed that push. Michael challenged me in ways I never thought I could handle, and ultimately, he helped make me a better person.
My health, strength, confidence, self-image, and determination have all improved tremendously. What started as a commitment to changing my body became something so much bigger. Duke’s changed the way I think, the way I carry myself, and the way I approach challenges in every area of my life.
Duke’s didn’t just change my body—it changed my mindset, my confidence, and ultimately, my life. I’m stronger than I was when I walked through those doors, and I’m proud of the person I’ve become because I chose to keep showing up, even when it was hard.
