USHJA Zone 12 Outreach Festival Horse Show

The USHJA Zone 12 Jumping Clinic is full! Sessions run from 9am to 5pm on June 22 & 23 at Chamberlin Equestrian Center in Anchorage; no cost to audit. Come watch the EEC/AHJA Outreach Horse Show on Friday (contact Dana Eaton for show information), followed by the Zone 12 Clinic on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday at 5:30pm we are hosting the Zone 12 Town Hall and Barbecue. Clinician Britt McCormick is the new USHJA President, and will talk on current programs and opportunities, and be available to answer questions. Please bring a side dish/drinks and join us for a fun evening at the equestrian center.

CLINIC DETAILS:
June 3 is opening date for clinic online applications; riders accepted on a first come, first served basis. Payment is required at the time of application submittal. Suggestions to streamline the application process:
1) Become a USHJA member now (Outreach level is free). Set up your USHJA account with username and password. Print a membership card showing your USHJA ID number.
2) Organize all required information (horse owner, trainer, phone numbers, EIA/Coggins).
3) When applications open on June 3, be prepared to create or access your Smarter Select account (different than your USHJA member account).
4) Complete the initial application, then use the payment link to finalize the process.

USHJA ZONE 12 CLINIC INFORMATION!

Please join us for the USHJA Zone 12 Clinic June 22-23, 2024 at WCCEC in Anchorage, AK. Our 2024 clinician is Britt Mccormick from Texas. The clinic flyer will be available soon, but here is the pertinent information:
• Online clinic applications open June 3 at 8:00am and close June 10 at 7:59pm, Alaska time.
• Applications will be on a first come, first served basis, with payment required at time of application submittal.
• Rider must be a current USHJA member to apply. Accepted USHJA membership levels are Active/Competing, Education, and Outreach; USHJA Outreach membership is free.
• Cost is $425 for the two days, and includes the mandatory $50 stabling/grounds fee.
• A maximum of 20 riders will be accepted. All levels will be accommodated, with riders grouped appropriately.
• Approved refunds, less a $25 administrative fee, will be issued if valid doctor/veterinarian note is provided, or if over quota.
• Auditors and spectators are welcome and encouraged, no fee.

Clinician Britt McCormick has over 30 years of training and coaching experience. He has operated his own training stable (Elmstead Farm) in Texas since 1989 which is now home to Stonewall Farm. His students and horses have successfully competed at all levels of the sport.

In addition to training and coaching, Britt serves as a licensed official and holds certification as an "R" Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation, Hunter, and Hunter Breeding judge; "R" Hunter Course Designer, "R" Jumper Course Designer; and a licensed AQHA Specialized Judge. He has served as the Jumper Technical Delegate for USHJA Championships, as an advisor to the USHJA Gold Star Clinics, and as Chef d'Equipe for Zone 7.

Britt also devotes his time to sport governance. He currently serves as chairman of USEF's National Breeds and Disciplines Council and on the National Hunter Committee. Within the USHJA, he has served on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Hunter and Jumper Working Groups, International Hunter Derby and Incentive Task Force. He is currently the 2024 president-elect of the USHJA.

Since I am unable to attend the United States Hunter Jumper Association - USHJA Annual Meeting in Charlotte, NC this year, I submitted the following Zone 12 Report:

2023 RECAP
The Zone 12 Committee hosted their 2023 June clinic in Anchorage, bringing up clinician Jeff Cook for the second consecutive year. The clinic was well attended and educational for both riders and auditors.

Zone 12 held its first Outreach Series and Festival in 2023, with shows hosted by Eaton Equestrian Centre LLC and Valley Horse Show Association in Anchorage and Palmer. Melanie Mader flew up for the Festival, bringing great prizes and much appreciated assistance and support. Junior rider Brooklyn Thurman won the Zone 12 Golden Backstage Pass to the USHJA National Championships, and represented Alaska well as she took advantage of the opportunity to show and participate in educational activities in Las Vegas.

2024 PLANS
The 2024 Zone 12 clinic will be held June 21-23 in Anchorage. This year we are pleased to have Mr. Britt Mccormick, USHJA president-elect/trainer/judge/course designer/show manager as our clinician.

Plans are underway for our second Outreach Series and Festival, with two Anchorage dates on the books and more in the works. We hope to finalize and publicize show dates soon.
