A few weeks ago, some of these students walked in wondering if they could do this.
Now?
They move with purpose. They understand their equipment. They communicate underwater. They solve problems. They look calm, confident, and capable.
They look like divers.
And that's what makes us proud.
Every certification starts with someone deciding to try something new. Every confident diver starts as a nervous beginner.
We're excited to get these students into open water and help them complete the final step of their certification journey. The hard work is showing, and we can't wait to see what happens next.
Because the goal was never just earning a certification.
The goal was becoming the kind of diver who is ready for the adventure.

We've heard the questions.
"When are you bringing it back?"
"Can you get one for me?"
"I've been waiting for that!"
Well, the wait is almost over.
We've been working behind the scenes to bring something back that divers throughout Interior Alaska know, trust, and have been asking about for quite some time.
New inventory is on the way. Familiar favorites are returning. And we can't wait to share what's coming.
Trust us—you'll want to keep an eye on this one.
Stay tuned for our announcements.
They Didn't Start as Divers.
They started exactly where most people do.
A little nervous.
Not sure if they could do it.
Wondering if they were too old, too young, out of shape, or just not "a water person."
Then something changed.
One skill at a time. One breath at a time. One pool session at a time.
Now look at them.
Smiling. Confident. Learning skills that will stay with them for life.
The goal isn't just a certification card.
It's confidence.
It's knowing you can stay calm when things don't go perfectly.
It's discovering a world that most people only see in pictures.
Every diver starts somewhere.
This is where their adventure began.
What's something you were nervous to try that ended up changing your life?

"I want to learn to scuba dive, but I'm not a strong swimmer."
We hear that all the time.
That's exactly why we offer Survival Swim.
This is not a competitive swim program.
It's not about perfect strokes.
It's not about swim teams.
It's not about becoming an expert swimmer.
It's about building comfort, confidence, and the water skills needed to take the next step.
Whether your goal is snorkeling, scuba diving, freediving, or simply feeling more comfortable in the water, Survival Swim helps bridge the gap between "I can't" and "I'm ready."
Many people dream about exploring the underwater world but never start because they don't think they're good enough swimmers.
We're here to change that.
Every diver starts somewhere.
Could this be your first step?
👇 What's one water activity you've always wanted to try but haven't yet?
Every certified diver has a story.
Not about the coolest fish they saw. Not about the deepest dive they made.
I'm talking about the moment before they started.
The moment they wondered:
"Can I really do this?"
Maybe you were nervous about the water. Maybe it had been years since you swam. Maybe you signed up because of a vacation. Maybe a friend talked you into it.
Whatever your reason, something got you to take that first step.
So let's hear it...
What made you decide to become a diver?
Was it a trip? A bucket-list goal? A family tradition? A desire to challenge yourself?
Share your story below. We'd love to hear how your diving journey started, and your story might inspire someone who's still sitting on the fence.

What is SSI?
SSI (Scuba Schools International) is one of the largest diver training organizations in the world, with training materials available in dozens of languages and certifications recognized globally.
Their mission is simple:
Make diving accessible, affordable, and focused on creating confident, capable divers.
At Test the Waters Alaska, that's something we can get behind.
For decades, our instructors have trained divers through both SSI and PADI. In fact, many of our instructors have more than 20 years of experience teaching under PADI standards and have certified hundreds of divers throughout their careers.
Both agencies produce excellent divers.
So why did we bring SSI into our dive center?
Because we wanted to create more opportunities for people to get started.
SSI's digital training system helps reduce costs, gives students lifetime access to many of their training materials, and creates a flexible learning path that allows divers to continue growing long after their first certification.
For many people, the biggest barrier to diving isn't fear.
It's cost.
We believe more people should have the opportunity to experience the underwater world, learn life-saving skills, build confidence, and create memories that last a lifetime.
Bringing SSI into Test the Waters Alaska allows us to offer that opportunity while maintaining the high training standards and safety culture our students expect.
You're receiving training from experienced professionals who care about your success.
What matters most isn't the logo on the certification card.
It's the quality of the training behind it.
Because earning a certification isn't about collecting a card.
It's about opening the door to a lifetime of adventure, exploration, friendships, travel, and experiences that few people ever get to see.

What's something you were afraid of before you started diving?
For some divers, it was taking off the mask underwater.
For others, it was breathing from a regulator for the first time.
Some were worried about deep water. Some thought they weren't strong swimmers. Some were convinced scuba just wasn't for them.
Now look at you.
Tell us:
What was the biggest fear you had before becoming a diver, and what advice would you give someone who is feeling that same fear today?
Drop it in the comments. Your answer might be exactly what a future diver needs to hear.

Most people don't walk into our shop wanting to become an instructor.
They walk in because:
They want their kids to be safer around water.
They have a vacation coming up.
They saw a video of sea turtles and thought, "I want to do that."
They are tired of sitting on the boat while everyone else explores below.
They want to prove to themselves they can do something hard.
That's why we teach more than scuba.
We start with Survival Swim.
We teach Snorkeling.
We teach Scuba.
And for those who want more, we teach all the way through professional-level training.
You don't have to know your final destination today.
You just have to take the first step.
Five years from now, the person who learns to float confidently today might be exploring coral reefs, diving shipwrecks, or teaching others how to dive.
Every journey starts somewhere.
