Well,
Just an update on what’s happening in North St. Paul, Minnesota and Triple Crown. NOTE: Need your awareness and help.

Thirty (30) years ago I put together a dream of helping players to develop in the sports of Baseball and Softball. I went to the City of North St. Paul with a proposal that I wanted to build an indoor year-round batting cage for the surrounding communities. My proposal was that I would pay for the construction of the facility and would give the City the deed to this building in exchange for allowing me to run this business to help the kids and families become involved in a team sport.

I also decided to build the concession building at the McKnight Fields as part of this gift. I promised the City Council at that time this would never cost the City or the tax payers even one penny. That has been 100% true.

When I started I asked for a 15-year lease of no rent. I chose 15 years because I wasn’t sure how long I wanted to do this. Well, when the next 15 years came up I asked the City Council to extend another 15 years. At that time, the City Council applauded my decision to continue.

Well, needless to say, it has become my passion and I love the families that come in because they are the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Now as of this year, the new North St. Paul City Council has come up with the idea that despite giving them the building, they will now charge me rent on this gift I originally gave to the City in the early 90s.

The rent they will now charge us is $125,000.00 over 5 years.

I have always kept my costs down to make sure all families can afford to share in this experience while continuing to give back to the local community in different ways.

Over the years, I have helped pay for the sound system at the adjacent baseball field and put together a food drive that is now at 18,000 lbs of food. Triple Crown Batting Cages has supplied every t ball player with shirts for 20 years and have never turned down a request for a donation of any kind, which amounts to thousands of dollars over the years.

Thirty years ago I remortgaged my house to make this happen. What I have gotten back in terms of gratitude, you almost can't put into words. I'm humbled by the community and our local and statewide athletes -- it gives me the greatest satisfaction to support all of you and, hopefully, future generations. I cannot truly describe how grateful I am to have established the cages and so happy for what we have become. It goes beyond my initial hopes for the facility when we built it over 30 years ago.

Teams, athletes and their families travel from all over the states of and to come to Triple Crown Batting Cages and we hope this will continue. I've also gotten to know many young athletes who visited throughout the years, starting with the tball and grade school rec leagues. Many developed the skills to play collegiate baseball or softball, and some, now in the MLB.

If anyone feels the need to speak out, there is a North St. Paul City Council meeting this Tuesday, June 20th at 6:30 pm at North Saint Paul City Hall. Show up at 6:15 and fill out a card that only asks your name and reason. The reason can just be Triple Crown. You will be given 3 minutes to speak what’s on your mind. North St. Paul City Hall is located at 2400 Margaret Street, North St. Paul, MN 55109. More details including the upcoming agenda can be found at: https://www.northstpaul.org/194/City-Council and https://northstpaul.org/129/Agendas-Minutes .

I hope everyone will be concerned about the future of what has become a destination for all baseball and softball athletes and those who advocate for local sports.

Believe me, I will do everything in my power to make sure Triple Crown continues to operate and if you feel the same, I hope to see you all Tuesday. I would welcome and appreciate letters of support from our patrons and sending/emailing those directly to the City Council, who are listed in the links above. Email: [email protected]

Thanks again. Please share this post with everyone who may care about the future of Triple Crown or can help in any way. Let's knock this one out of the park.

Regards
Bart
