Spring Fever lost a great friend this week… this is a picture of him and his squirrel dogs on the cover of the Indiana Hunting Guide. I remember the day he showed it to me… his dogs were his pride and joy and he couldn’t have been more proud. We enlarged it, and framed this copy. It now hangs in the Spring Fever office in memory of Tommy.
Tommy and I spent several mornings together at the local DNR office hoping to be drawn that day to turkey hunt. We shot countless shells at his house almost every Spring getting ready for season. If you knew Tommy, he was always good for a laugh! Here’s one of my favorite Tommy stories.. I remember it like it was yesterday!
I was sighting in a new turkey gun a few years ago and it kicked BAD!! He kept telling me I was a wimp.. finally after all my complaining he said let me shoot that thing! Squatting down on one knee, a lit cigarette bounced in the corner of his mouth as he yelled, “Fire in the hole!” He pulled the trigger and it blowed him flat on his back! As he rolled over saying his share of choice words I was laughing so hard I couldn’t hardly catch my breath. That’s when I heard him say it knocked my teeth out! I looked up to see Tommy dusting grass off his false teeth! 🤣
Thanks for being you Tommy! You’re missed dearly!
