Every second Saturday of August in Northport, Michigan, a fun, whimsical parade is held for dogs and their families to walk the streets of Northport while dressed according to the theme of the year.

A little trip down memory lane! 🐾❤️

A huge thank you to the folks at Moxie Estate Sales Traverse for cherry-picking through David Chrobak’s treasures and helping us recover so many Northport Dog Parade treasures—including photos spanning many years of parade memories! So much history in one collection.

We hope you enjoy this look back at the early days and beyond, including this first photo of David walking Cyndee—the inspiration and reason for the Dog Parade—at the inaugural parade in 1996.

And boy are we glad the parade didn’t stop in 2008 (as indicated in the last photo).

A HUGE shoutout to the people who make the Northport Dog Parade possible!

It really does take THE village 😉

From our amazing board and dedicated volunteers who work behind the scenes all year long, our wonderful judges, the Northport Fire Department (hosing down the parade route is SUCH a nice touch!), to the Northport Lions Club (those hot dogs…🤤), the Leelanau Township Library (gotta love the free Clifford books!), the photographers, our fantastic MC, and the countless people who pitch in, lend a hand, donate, organize, wrangle, cheer, and make the magic happen…

WE THANK YOU! 🙌

The parade may be all about the dogs, but it takes a whole lot of people to make this day happen. We are so lucky to have such an incredible community behind this goofy, wonderful tradition.

And to all of you who came out, dressed up, cheered, donated, and celebrated with us—this parade wouldn’t be the same without you!

Our friends over at the Northport Art Association (Becky Holton and Linda Gits) made these one-of-a-kind beauties for our 2026 winners—and we are OBSESSED! Each award winner got to take one home. ❤️

Our Roaming Ump crew was on the lookout for some very specific—and very silly—dog designations throughout the parade. From The Frump to The Grump, The Jump(er) to The Plump, plus The Chump, Stump, Bump, Hump, Dump, Schlump & Clump… our judges found them all!
