When you can combine pinning the torso with bodyweight reinforced by blocks/wedges with simultaneous control over your opponent’s limbs - then you truly control your opponent. Moreover, that control over the limbs translates immediately into submission possibilities - bridging the gap between pins and submissions. That’s the ideal you want to be striving for whenever you get into control positions.

For any given attacking position Mae sure you more than one option. Now matter good the position and no matter how well you ca perform a single attack from there - the moment you become predictable is the moment your attacks become defendable. Make sure you have a minimum of two (three or four is better yet) strong attacks from your major attacking positions. That optionality will be worth its weight in gold when you are matched against tough opponents
