šŸ‰šŸ„‹ THEY’RE LEARNING MORE THAN KICKS & PUNCHES!

Watch our Lil Dragons and you’ll see little hands punching, feet kicking, and even some knees and elbows flying. šŸ˜„

But underneath all that fun, something much bigger is happening.

Our Lil Dragons program at Aspire Performance Center is designed to help young children develop important skills that carry far beyond the martial arts floor:

šŸ„‹ Motor skills & coordination — learning how their bodies move and how to control them.

šŸ‘‚ Listening skills — hearing an instruction and knowing what they’re being asked to do.

🧠 Attention & focus — learning to stay engaged and pay attention even when there’s a lot happening around them.

šŸ’” Comprehension — understanding an instruction, processing it, and putting it into action.

šŸŽÆ Following directions — taking a task from ā€œlistenā€ to ā€œunderstandā€ to ā€œDO.ā€

And perhaps most importantly…

ā¤ļø They’re having FUN while they learn!

We don’t expect little ones to stand around for an hour listening to lectures. We get them moving, laughing, learning and experiencing the fundamentals of martial arts in a way that makes sense for their age.

Kicks. Punches. Knees. Elbows. Balance. Coordination. Focus. Confidence.

It may look like play…

but they’re building skills that will serve them for years to come. šŸ‰

That’s what being a Lil Dragon at Aspire Performance Center is all about.

ONE ASPIRE. MANY WAYS TO GROW.

You may know us as Aspire Taekwondo. But Aspire has grown—and today, we’re much more than a Taekwondo school.

Aspire Performance Center brings together multiple specialized programs, all under one roof:

šŸ„‹ Aspire Taekwondo
🄊 Aspire Muay Thai
🄊 Aspire Kickboxing
šŸ„‹ Aspire MMA
🤼 Aspire Wrestling
ā˜Æļø Aspire Tai Chi
šŸ’Ŗ Aspire Fitness Center

Different disciplines. Different goals. Different ways to train.

One community. One facility. One Aspire.

Whether you’re looking to learn martial arts, train for competition, develop your fitness, learn self-defense, improve your strength and conditioning, or simply become a stronger version of yourself—Aspire Performance Center has a place for you.

And if you’ve known us for years as Aspire Taekwondo, don’t worry.

Aspire Taekwondo isn’t going anywhere.

It’s one of the programs that helped build Aspire into what we are today.

ASPIRE PERFORMANCE CENTER
More than a martial arts school. A place to become more.

šŸ¦„ WE’RE PROUD TO BE THE UNICORN.

I noticed something interesting when looking through our Google reviews.

Our reviews don’t just talk about kicks, punches, belts or trophies.

The themes that keep showing up are:

CARING INSTRUCTORS.
PATIENT INSTRUCTORS.
RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENT.
PEOPLE WHO FEEL HEARD.

And honestly?

That makes me dang proud.

Because that’s exactly what we’ve worked to build at Aspire Performance Center.

We didn’t set out to build another martial arts school that says:

ā€œThis is the way we’ve always done it.ā€

We built Aspire to be different.

Master Lawrence and I have had countless conversations over the years about challenging the traditional martial arts model.

We don’t believe in ā€œdo as I say because I’m the instructor.ā€

We believe in asking WHY?

We listen to our students.
We listen to our parents.
We evaluate what we’re doing.
We make changes when something can be better.

And some of the biggest improvements we’ve made didn’t come from a textbook, a seminar or someone standing on a stage telling us how martial arts should be done.

They came from YOU.

A student who spoke up.

A parent who gave us an idea.

Someone who said, ā€œHave you ever thought about doing it this way?ā€

And instead of dismissing them…

We listened.

That’s the difference.

We don’t operate from the top of a mountain.

We operate alongside the people we serve.

That’s how Aspire has evolved from a traditional Taekwondo school into Aspire Performance Center—a place where men, women and children can find martial arts, fitness and personal development in an environment that is constantly evolving.

We don’t chase the status quo.

We challenge it.

We don’t pretend we’re perfect.

We constantly look for ways to get better.

And apparently, our Aspire family notices.

So yeah…

We’re proud to be the unicorn. šŸ¦„

Different isn’t something we’re trying to hide.

It’s the entire point.

I want to share a recent review we received because it says so much about what we are trying to do at the Aspire Performance Center. Aspire Taekwondo was our 1st service and remains our flagship program, but we are working at building other opportunities for people to have similar experiences with our other offerings.

As the founders of APC Master Roger and Master Len work tirelessly to maintain and protect the family friendly atmosphere that Aspire is known for. So never fear that the new programs will change who we are. Our instructors are well vetted and all understand the high standards we require to keep Aspire as the premier martial arts location in West Michigan.

šŸ‘Š Meet the People Behind Aspire!

For the next several weeks, we’re putting the spotlight on the instructors who make Aspire Performance Center what it is.

Every Tuesday morning, we’ll feature one of our instructors on the Aspire website, giving you a chance to learn more about their background, experience, teaching philosophy, and what they bring to our students.

šŸ„‹ First up: Master Roger Willard

As the founder and owner of Aspire, Master Roger has been teaching martial arts for decades and has helped shape Aspire into the training center it is today.

But there’s much more to his story—and you’ll get to learn about it when his instructor profile drops Tuesday morning on our website.

Then, each Tuesday, we’ll introduce you to another member of the Aspire team.

Great instructors make great schools. We’re excited to introduce you to ours.

šŸ‘‰ Watch for Master Roger’s feature Tuesday morning!

Master Roger Willard is the Co-Founder of Aspire Performance Center and has dedicated his life to martial arts, leadership, and helping others discover their potential. Master Roger’s martial arts journey began with a passion for developing high-level competitors. When he and Master Len Lawrence f...

Sometimes You Need to Kick, Punch & Shout

I learned something about stress during one of the most demanding periods of my law enforcement career.

I had taken on an exceptionally stressful role, and I started noticing something interesting. On the nights I trained in Taekwondo, I slept well. On the nights I didn’t train, I would toss and turn, my mind racing and sleep hard to come by.

Later, during training on secondary trauma, our team talked about the warning signs and stress indicators we were experiencing. As everyone shared, I realized something that surprised me: I actually had the fewest indicators in the room.

I believe a big part of that came from what I jokingly call ā€œkick, punch and shout.ā€

There’s something powerful about taking the stress and energy of the day and putting it into movement. Punching. Kicking. Training hard. Breathing. Shouting. And then walking away from the mat feeling like you left some of that stress behind.

Exercise doesn’t make stressful things disappear. But it can give your body and mind a healthy outlet for dealing with them.

For me, Taekwondo wasn’t just about getting stronger or becoming a better martial artist. It became one of the ways I kept stress from becoming overwhelming.

Sometimes you don’t need to talk about your stress.

Sometimes you need to kick, punch and shout it out. šŸ„‹šŸ‘Š
