It is with great sadness that I write this post. After almost 49 years in business UTOPIA has made the very difficult decision to close our doors.
Without going into extreme detail - we’ve done absolutely everything we can to try to survive through the changes in commerce and our economy. We live in a digital world, and we simply cannot keep up with the giants of e-commerce. Times have changed, markets are saturated, competition and costs are high.

With that being said, Saturday August 31st, 2024 will be our last day open to the public.

I speak for everyone here at UTOPIA in saying that although this is an incredibly difficult decision to make, we go with grace. We have been incredibly fortunate for several decades to have had the support and love from our customers all of these years. We never would’ve made it this long without you guys. Keep an eye on our social media because on Monday August 19th we’ll be announcing a massive blowout sale campaign.

Again, we are beyond grateful for all of the years of support. It has been an honor to serve the community near and far. We will miss you.

Okay. We have an official GRAND OPENING date for the Norwalk Skate Park at Calf Pasture Beach.

Saturday 10/28/23. To my understanding there will be a ceremonial ribbon cutting and then immediate shredding to follow.

Since there was a bit of a time crunch we were not able to organize an event on such short notice, with that being said, we WILL have some contests and events in the very near future. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on that.

Anyways…please show up Saturday 10/28 if you can, would love to welcome this new park with a massive crowd!

I think as these billion dollar corporate footwear companies continue to muscle their way into the skateboard industry we slowly lose sight of the very essence of skateboarding. Did we forget that skateboarding is supposed to go against the grain? Did we forget that skateboarding was a crime? Did we forget that skateboarders used to be the only people that made and sold skateboard products? Listen, if you like Nikes and they fit you well, and you like the way they skate, by all means…whatever blows your hair back. But don’t forget to give credit where it’s due. Companies like Sole Technology ( ) are piloted by skateboarders, and sold by skateboarders. These may not be the shoes for you, and that’s fine, but next time you’re considering buying some skate shoes, consider who you’re actually supporting. Consider keeping skateboarding a place for outcasts - the way it’s supposed to be.

Personally I’m hooked on the slappys..I did downsize from 159 Indy’s to 8.5 slappys so the turning is a bit different. But I’m a huge fan of how they look and perform. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here…Just curious, what do you prefer, and why?
