In one week we will be kicking off the 2027 competition season with Youth America Grand Prix in Philadelphia. Since 2014 YAGP has been an experience that our dancers have looked forward to, be it either the Master Classes, the cheering on of your fellow dancers, or simply realizing what a gift it is to perform.
As a Director, I believe in Youth America Grand Prix because it reinforces one of my favorite words - GRIT. There is something truly special watching young dancers grow over a period of time and seeing a goal reached to fulfillment.
As lovely as it is to place and to be recognized from any competition, I truly believe that this next question carries far more weight within your training - Are you a better dancer today than when you started this journey? If you can answer with a YES then you have already won. Your training is a marathon not a sprint.
NMYB, I am beyond proud of your weeks of intentional focus, the body of work that you are presenting is both technically challenging and artistically moving; you should all be proud. And I can answer the above question for each and every one of you, YES - you are all better, stronger, and more aware as dancers today then when you began this journey. That makes you each a winner in my eyes.
