Su***de Prevention Begins with Human Connection
Behind a capable smile may be someone carrying pain we cannot see.
Su***de prevention is not only the work of mental health professionals. It begins when each of us pays attention, reaches out, listens without judgment, and makes room for an honest answer to the question, “How are you - really?”
In our workplaces, families, and communities, compassion matters. A genuine conversation may not solve everything, but it can remind someone that they are seen, valued, and not alone.
Su***de may involve several factors, including mental illness, trauma, substance use, chronic pain, loss, isolation, relationship problems, or an overwhelming crisis. The CDC emphasizes that su***de rarely has one single cause. Feelings can change quickly from high to low and low to high.
On Su***de Prevention Day, September 10, 2026, we remember every precious life lost to su***de and hold close the families and loved ones who continue to carry their loss.
If you are struggling, please know that your life matters and your story is still being written. You don't have to face this moment alone. Call or text 988 for free, confidential support through the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
There is help. There is hope. Please stay.
