We love our local land stewards-give Friends of RocklandLake & Hook a follow! Keep up with the amazing work they do with the parks as their classroom.

The Friends of Rockland Lake and Hook Mountain is a nonprofit grassroots organization focused on the conservation and history of the four park system including New York State Parks: Rockland Lake, Hook Mountain, Nyack Beach, and Haverstraw Beach. They preserve local nature by hosting environmental education programs for students, protecting land grants, and supporting the community enjoyment of our parks and trails!

Learning in the parks is an essential component to the Friends’ mission as education is the foundation of environmental consciousness. There are three parts to the program, including the 4th grade Rock to River field trips learning everything from the plateau geology, to the trail ecology and river biology. The 7th graders go deeper into Nyack’s history through geology, while the high schoolers have an opportunity to intern as environmental educators, developing leadership skills and working with children.
