Winter and Dance
As temperatures drop, days shorten and the snow falls, the strongest desire for many is to curl up and sleep. Lack of motivation, mild depression, and low energy are common. A great way to beat the winter blues is by getting to the studio and into action. Its easier getting motivated to dance with others in a studio filled with music then working out in a gym alone. And dance can also improve mood and raise energy levels. So lets spend more time this winter dancing and less time curled up on that couch.

Get out of the dance studio!
Maybe I should have said, go to the theater. Too often I have seen students who love dance class, but have seldom or never gone to see a professional dance performance. They don't seem to connect what they do in the studio with what happens on stage. It's important to witness artistry as well as work on technique. Don't deny yourself the joy and inspiration of seeing what we work on in the studio come to life on stage. Go see a dance performance!

Do you think your too old for dance?
Today, most people think of ballet as something that you must begin to do when you are eight, or at least a young child. Learning classical dance as an adult or an older adult would surely be impossible. But, that is not what history would tell us. The beginnings of ballet can be traced back to 16th century France. When Catherine de Medici of Italy married Henry II she brought the ballo tradition with her. Because of its growing popularity the nobles of their court, acquired dancing masters to give them lessons in ballet. So, when Catherine's courtiers danced ballet, what she saw was the pleasure and enjoyment of adults!
