Stiff hips and a tight back can make everyday movements like bending, squatting, and getting out of a chair feel harder than they should.

Move slowly and stay in a range that feels comfortable. A mild stretch is normal, but sharp or worsening pain is a signal to back off. Regular practice, even just a few minutes a day, tends to matter more than going deep.

Pro tip: Use your breath as your guide. If you have to hold your breath, you've gone too far. Ease off and stay in the range that feels comfortable. 🌬️

Dealing with low back or SI joint discomfort?
One simple exercise worth adding to your routine is the clamshell.
It strengthens the glute medius, a muscle that helps stabilize your pelvis. When it's underactive, the SI joint and low back can end up taking on extra load.

Here's how:

Lie on your side with hips stacked and knees bent
Keep your feet together and lift your top knee
Avoid rolling your pelvis backward
Pause briefly, then lower with control
Try 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps on each side, most days of the week

Start easy and stay within a comfortable range. Mild muscle fatigue is normal, but sharp or worsening pain is a sign to stop.

Is your low back pain really coming from your SI joint?

If your pain sits low on one side, or spreads into your buttock, hip, or groin, your sacroiliac joint could be involved. Research suggests this joint is often overlooked when people are treated for "low back pain."

A recent review of 24 randomized trials found that physical therapy reduces pain and improves function for SI joint dysfunction, and a combined approach may work best. At [Clinic Name], that means a thorough hands-on evaluation, then a plan that blends manual therapy, deep core and pelvic floor stabilization, and education so you know what's going on and how to keep it from coming back.

Our new blog breaks down what the research says and includes 3 gentle exercises you can try at home when pain flares up.

Recovering from a prostatectomy? Here's what most men aren't told.

Prostate removal surgery is often life-saving β€” but it also disrupts the muscles responsible for bladder control and sexual function. Leakage in the weeks and months afterward is common, and it can feel discouraging.

Here's what matters: pelvic floor physical therapy is the recognized first-line treatment for this. Research shows that men who start guided pelvic floor training β€” ideally before surgery, and definitely as soon as they're cleared afterward β€” recover continence significantly faster than those who don't.

At our clinic, we help men:
πŸ”Ή Learn to correctly activate the pelvic floor (it's easy to get wrong without guidance)
πŸ”Ή Build a personalized recovery program, step by step
πŸ”Ή Work through both urinary and sexual function concerns in a private, judgment-free setting

If you or someone you love is facing prostate surgery β€” or already recovering from one β€” know that specialized care can make a real difference. We're here to help.

If your lower back has been feeling stiff or achy, these three simple stretches can make a real difference:

🐱 Cat-Cow β€” mobilizes the spine and eases stiffness
πŸ™ Child's Pose β€” a gentle release for the lower back and hips
πŸŒ€ Supine Twist β€” helps relieve built-up tension along the lumbar spine

You don't need any equipment β€” just a few quiet minutes and a bit of floor space. Try holding each stretch for 5-8 slow breaths.

Save this post for the next time your back needs a little TLC, and share it with someone who's been complaining about their back lately!

πŸŒ— It's World Perimenopause Day! (Sept 22)

Perimenopause: the years-long plot twist your body doesn't warn you about. Let's talk about it β€” lightheartedly, but for real.

5 things most people don't know:

🧠 It can mess with your memory and focus. Brain fog is real β€” it's the estrogen fluctuations affecting cognition, not you "losing it."

😴 It's not just hot flashes. Try: itchy skin, joint aches, burning tongue (yes, really), heart palpitations, and even tinnitus. Your hormones are apparently ambitious.

πŸ“… It can start in your mid-to-late 30s. Most people picture perimenopause as a 50-something thing, but it can begin over a decade earlier β€” and last 4–10 years.

😒 Mood swings β‰  just "being emotional." Fluctuating hormones can trigger anxiety or depression-like symptoms, sometimes for the first time in someone's life.

🩸 Periods can get weird before they disappear. Shorter cycles, heavier flow, skipped months β€” perimenopause loves to keep you guessing before menopause officially arrives (12 months with no period).

πŸ’¬ The bottom line: your body isn't broken, it's transitioning. Knowing the signs = feeling less alone (and less confused) when they show up.

Happy Friday, everyone!
Let's end the week with a fun (and surprisingly useful) health fact: πŸš½πŸ˜„

On average, a healthy bladder needs emptying about every 3 to 4 hours.
That works out to roughly 6–8 bathroom trips a day for most people who are well-hydrated.
Going much more often than that, or holding it much longer, isn't necessarily a problem β€” but if it's a noticeable or ongoing change for you, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor.

In the meantime β€” drink your water, listen to your body, and enjoy the weekend! πŸ’§πŸŽ‰

Living with chronic pain?

There's a non-surgical option worth knowing about. 🩺
Shockwave therapy (also known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT) uses focused acoustic pulses to stimulate healing in damaged tissue. It's commonly used to treat conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, tendonitis, and other stubborn soft-tissue injuries.

βœ… Non-invasive β€” no incisions or needles
βœ… Quick sessions, typically 15–20 minutes
βœ… No downtime or recovery period
βœ… Backed by growing clinical research for pain reduction and improved mobility

If pain has been holding you back from the activities you love, it might be time to explore your options.
