A Thursday night regular, Eden reflects on her start in Hot Yoga:
“14 years of hot yoga—and it turns out what I thought I was there to change isn’t what changed at all.
Looking back, I can see that before, I was simply a walking mind. I had zero body awareness. Nature soothed my nervous system and connected me with my heart…but hot yoga taught me to safely inhabit my body. 🧘♀️
Ironically, what started as a disciplined attempt to morph my body into an idea my mind had adopted as an ideal became a deep acceptance and reverence for the body I actually have NOW. Somewhere along the way, discipline became devotion.
I used to wonder wtf I did to warrant this human experience—but now I’m grateful for it, and wish to prolong it as much as my body will support me doing so with vitality. 🙏
Maybe our bodies were never meant to become an ideal. Maybe they’re meant to be inhabited, listened to, cared for, experienced, and explored.
What if instead of spending our lives mistreating our bodies in an attempt to make them worthy of other people’s approval, we learned to treat them as worthy of our own?”
