Join us for a day dedicated to self-care and mindful healing through movement, meditation, and community, all while fostering the emotional development of our future generations. M-POWER and Vicki Abadesco are organizing a retreat to raise funds for Soul Shoppe, a nonprofit based in Oakland that educates elementary students across the Bay Area and beyond in conflict resolution and communication skills.

This is a photo from our walk this morning. We started on the earlier side because of the heat. As you can see, it was magical. There was hardly anyone on the trail. There was a slight breeze, and the sun was starting to break light. The calm of the morning allows you to breathe, clear your mind, and see the beauty of what’s in front of you. Our theme for the weekend was finding balance in our lives. Sometimes, if you slow down and allow yourself to listen, the answers not only start to come to you, but you realize they were always there. You didn’t see them. Finding balance in our lives is one of the greatest challenges we face as humans. Our lives are so busy and filled with worries that we often neglect things that are truly meaningful to us. As women, we all struggle to some extent with balancing our lives. By nature, we tend to be creatures of habit and want to do everything to help and please everyone. However, we often forget that to do all those things, we must take care of ourselves first. To find balance, it's important to be present, set boundaries, and prioritize ourselves. At M-POWER, we not only focus on physical balance but also incorporate daily practices to help you achieve the balance needed for a full, happy, and healthy life. This Sunday marked the end of our third week of M-POWER. Every Sunday during the program, we do a trail, walk, jog, or run. This Sunday’s walk was at the Bay Shoreline Trail in Emeryville. Walking is one of the best exercises to nurture the body, clear the mind, and feed the soul. But walking outdoors, by the water, adds a whole new element. Being in nature reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature makes you feel better emotionally and contributes to your physical well-being, lowering blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones like cortisol. M-POWER is a woman-only fitness program based in Oakland. We are a supportive, non-judgemental community that aims to inspire women of all ages and fitness levels to overcome obstacles and achieve physical fitness goals, self-awareness, and confidence. This week was the start of our first 12-week rotation of M-POWER. M-POWER started during the pandemic when everyone was told to shelter in. This program was started as a way for women to come together and find support, safety, and hope in each other. The group started with 20 and has grown with each rotation. I am amazed at how strong this group has become, and I am proud to say that we are women supporting women through the good and the bad.
This week’s challenge in M-POWER was to post a photo of yourself and explain when you felt the most vibrant. What were you doing at that time that you’re not doing now? What changes do you need to make in your life now to make you feel alive again? This is a photo of myself during a Spartan Race in the fall of 2018. I remember it was freezing cold that day, and a storm was about to hit the area. All I could think about was getting to the bottom of the mountain. But also, in that moment, I thought about how great it felt to be out racing, conquering obstacles, and feeling tired but ALIVE! That was one of the most challenging races I ever did. It is a time I will never forget. I’m a little older now and probably won’t do another Spartan Race again. But I am training each day like I might, meeting myself where I am right now and living to LIVE another day with as much grace and vibrancy as I had back then. Post your photo and tell us a story!
