In my article, “Mr. BuildWealth’s Credo”, I list four things that I’m always thinking about when speaking with someone.
Here’s number 4️⃣ - Set up your babies for a successful financial future
Let me provide some additional details about the image below:
✳️ Initial date: 11/25/2014 - this is when I opened 529 account for this client
✳️ Beginning value: $250 (the client had received these funds from their baby shower)
✳️ Additions: this is all the money my client and their village (grandparents, aunts, uncles, framily, friends, co-workers) have contributed to the account. I coached this client on how to educate the village on the importance of helping fund this child’s future.
✳️ Investment gain: +$26,036; the investment performance is responsible for almost 50% of the growth of this account
Moral of the story: start investing for your babies as soon as possible. In addition to the village being on board with contributing, time is the secret ingredient. This child is only 11 years old. So, if they off to college at age 18, this parent (and the village that’s providing support) has another 7 years to contribute. 🤑
What will this account look like in 7 years? I don’t know but this is why I love doing what I do. While this 529 might not pay for college outright, it will certainly help put a dent into whatever these college expenses will be in 7+ years.
If you have a baby or babies and you’re not sure about what you should be doing for their financial future, DM me.

New blog alert 🚨!!
JG turned 4 last month. (She’s getting so big😭)
Each year, I’ve been writing an update about the financial plan and I setup for our daughter shortly after she was born. Over the years, I observed how wealthy families set their kids up for a successful financial future. Yes it helps to have a ton of money but in case you don’t, time and intention are the secret ingredients.
We started with what we could afford and sought out support from our village. They say it takes a village to raise a kid, so we have continued to be intentional about letting the village know we need money to help fund her various accounts. (You can’t be afraid to ask for what you want 😉)

My second time attending the didn’t disappoint!
With the ever-changing landscape of college sports and NIL, too many student-athletes are still falling victim to schemes and scams because they have yet to establish their personal Money Team.
During my session, I reminded the students that when I was playing baseball at I could simply focus on being a student and an athlete. Today’s college athlete now has to add business owner to that list of responsibilities.
Breakout Room 12 was filled with other professionals who shared my passion about making sure these business owners were maximizing their current situation and thinking about their long-term future. A big shoutout to Zo, .mice and because all of our presentations were perfectly aligned.
I walked away from this year’s summit with a renewed commitment to continuing my work with student athletes. The need is there and I will keep doing my part to provide the guidance that will help them crush it in life whether they go pro in their sport or not.

Went for a nice 10-mile bike ride through Alton Baker Park. What they didn’t tell me about Eugene is that it used to be called Death Valley because during the spring, the pollen is horrible!
I had a mask but nothing to cover my eyes 😂😂
