As this month is Women’s History Month, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge an integral woman in the history of our industry, Clara Pilates.

An excerpt from Clara’s Letters to Ron Fletcher...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I strongly believe it was fate, not coincidence that brought you together with The Pilates- we planted the seed, it grew strong roots! You had faith in it and faith in yourself, now go ahead. The work must and will go on. It will not always be easy as you will meet a lot of apprehensions and ignorance but there is no doubt with your fighting spirit you will conquer. Joe always said opposition is the match that lights the fire.”

Clara was not only Joe's partner in life, but partner in the studio. Ron always said, Joe was the genius, the man behind the method, and that Clara was the teacher. Her gentle, patient style of teaching led to years of them teaching Body Contrology side by side. After Joe’s death in 1967, Clara kept the flame alive, teaching and running their New York studio until her retirement in 1970.

This month and every month, we celebrate Clara Pilates and her impact on not only on Ron Fletcher, but the entire Pilates industry. Thank you Clara 🖤
