I’m Coach Jose, creator of Loving Your Awkward Self. I help people respond to life instead of react.

For those tired of overthinking and losing themselves in relationships, and ready to build confidence, boundaries, and clarity. I provide empathic, effective and thought-provoking individual and couples therapy to adolescents and adults.

One sentence can completely change the conversation.

“You never want to do anything with me.”

Suddenly you’re no longer talking about disappointment.

You’re arguing about whether they care.

This week we’re exploring the left side of the Range Check:

“I need someone else to carry this.”

Sometimes that shows up as anger.

Not because anger is the problem.

But because anger can move us away from the disappointment underneath it.

The conversation shifts from...

“This hurt.”

to...

“Who’s right?”

That’s the cost.

If you’re trying to expand your emotional range instead of getting stuck in your protective patterns, follow along this week.

This week wasn’t really about becoming more certain.

It was about noticing how often we wait for certainty before we let ourselves move.

Before we speak.

Before we ask.

Before we decide.

But most of life doesn’t ask us to know everything.

It just asks us to take the next step.

Maybe that’s enough.

If you’re trying to spend less time reacting, overthinking, or talking yourself out of things... stick around. That’s what we practice here.

I realized something while making this reel.

A lot of my “I don’t knows” weren’t actually because I didn’t know.

They were because I didn’t have one clear answer yet.

If you asked me what I wanted to eat, tacos sounded good.

Chinese sounded good too.

Years ago, I would’ve said, “I don’t know.”

Not because that was true...

but because I thought I needed to narrow it down before I was allowed to answer.

Now I’d probably just say,

“Honestly, I’d be happy with tacos or Chinese.”

That’s enough.

I think we do this in a lot more places than food.

Opinions.

Feelings.

Boundaries.

Sometimes we wait until we’ve got everything organized and ready to defend before we say anything.

I’m trying to practice something different.

Stay with what I know.

Then ask,

“What’s one step I can take with that?”

If that’s something you’re working on too, stick around. That’s what we practice here.

Sometimes we think we have two choices:

Either assume we know exactly what’s going on...

or convince ourselves we know nothing.

But there’s a third option.

Stay with what you do know.

Then ask,

“What’s one step I can take with that?”

Maybe it’s checking in.

Maybe it’s asking a question.

Maybe it’s sharing your opinion.

You don’t have to solve the whole situation before you respond to it.

If you’re trying to stop reacting on assumptions or disappearing into self-doubt, you’re in the right place.

Looking back, I don’t think my problem was that I didn’t have opinions.

I think I believed I had to earn the right to have one.

I had to know enough.

Be sure enough.

Have an answer I could defend.

So instead, I’d just say...

“I don’t know.”

Now, if someone asks me what I think, my answer is often,

“It’s mixed for me.”

Years ago, I would’ve thought that was a cop-out.

Now I think it’s often the most honest answer I have.

If you’re trying to stop overthinking every thought before you say it out loud, you’re in the right place.

Most of us don’t stop raising our hands after school.

We just get quieter in different ways.

We don’t share the idea in the meeting.

We don’t ask the question.

We don’t check in with the friend.

We say “I don’t know” when we actually have an opinion.

Not because we know nothing.

Because we’re waiting until we know everything.

If you’re trying to become more confident, don’t practice being certain.

Practice taking the next step with what you already know.

If that’s the kind of growth you’re working on, stick around. That’s what we practice here.
